1. Critical reading is reading in depth and going all out on the details. Being able to analyze and interpret the ideas is the most important part. Another important aspect of critical reading is separating assertion form evidence. My typical process when reading for school includes setting a time of the day where I am free to forget about everything and eliminate distractions and just read. When reading article like this it is usually in class and we are forced to read it. I never really feel compelled to share what I read because it is very rare that a subject assigned to read is interesting. When approaching reading for classes I try to find a way to make it interesting. 2. Literacy as power means to me that you have the power to express yourself. In ancient times being able to write was assign of power and intelligence. 3. Writing in the world of technology is misunderstood. People havent met the boundaries od writing in this realm. Some people dont even know the real meaning of literacy. 4. Literacy is a social achievement because in modern times literacy is used every day by texting and it allows us to accomplish so much more with our days. It also allows us to socialize and we can be individuals to our own literature. Seeing literature from another person point of view show how people all use it differently and how it all has different effects on people. She is a major advocate for an association that encourages being social with literature. 5. The necessity for literacy skills in daily life is obvious; on the job, riding around town, shopping for groceries, we all encounter situations requiring us to reads or produce written symbols When Scribner says this she means that we have to be able to read to make it in everyday life. Writing is everywhere, and if we didnt adapt to read we would be lost and confused and probably very incompetent. Within the United States, as in other nations, literacy programs with these practical aims are considered efforts at human resource development and, as such, contributors to economic growth and stability. This quote form Scribner shows the importance of literacy in everyday life as an American. Historically, literacy has been a potent tool in maintaining the hegemony of elites and dominant classes in certain societies. With this quote she is telling us how literacy has always been important in maintaining social classes. Literacy is a sign of power. The validity of the converse proposition-that literacy per so mobilizes people for action to change their social reality-remains to be established When she says this she is telling us how in order to be successful and powerful one needs to be sufficient in literature. The attribution of special powers to those who are literate has its ancient secular roots as well. Scribner means with this quote that literature has ancient roots shows how people have changed a lot with their language but have kept some of the most important parts of literature such as accents and the soundings of the words. The self-enhancing aspects of literacy are often given a cognitive interpretation. With this quote Scribner is telling us literacy has been interpreted very differently over the years causing It to change. Everybody interprets literature differently.
