House of Representatives

1. What are your reasons for running for office?

Michigan faces significant economic challenges that must be

addressed and will require difficult and wise decision-making. In
addition to our economic challenges, our citizens’ constitutional
rights are being threatened by the actions of the federal
government. Eaton County needs someone who has been tested and
has a proven record of fiscal responsibility in their personal and
public life. I worked in the Michigan Legislature for ten years and
have a working knowledge of all aspects of a legislator’s
responsibilities. This experience, coupled with my leadership as
Mayor of Charlotte, will allow me to hit the ground running to work
with the rest of my colleagues to move Michigan forward. I am the
most qualified and tested candidate in the 71st House District race
and will continue my leadership of standing up for the people who
elect me and will protect them from an overreach of government at
all levels. I am gravely concerned about the direction we are headed
and what kind of life we will be leaving for our children and
grandchildren.

10. What is your definition of “limited government”?

Limited government is addressed in the U.S. Constitution and gives

the federal government minimal, limited power to intervene in our
lives. Limited government specifies that the more significant role of
government should be left to state and local governments, where
the elected representatives tend to be more accountable to the
people who elect them. I believe some government is necessary,
but in this day and age, I believe government has become too large,
causing way too many of our citizens to expect government to take
care of problems they may have created on their own. If I am
elected the next state representative of Eaton County, one of my
responsibilities will be to protect the people from excessive
government and overreaching legislation that may interfere with a
person’s constitutional rights.
