Genetic modification of unborn babies is a topic that is becoming very popular. It is the

ability to go into a the genes of an unborn baby and alter characteristics of the fetus. This can

help prevent genetic diseases, but it can also help you to design your baby. Some people say that

we should be using the ability to genetically modify genes to design our own babies, but I

believe that we should be using it to help prevent and remove diseases from the world that

currently do not have any other fix because this will help to save the lives of many children and

help us to create better lives for children who would have been born with these genetic diseases.

Black, Julia. "Regulation as Facilitation: Negotiating the Genetic Revolution." Modern Law

Review 61.5 (1998): 621-60. Web. 19 Apr. 2017.

This source is very old, but has a lot of information on the laws that go along with genetic

modification and designer babies. It provides the things that are legal and why this is legal, while

also stating the things that people believe are illegal. It also clarifies things like what legal issues

can come up when a child is genetically modified. It is a very interesting article that showed me

a whole different topic to talk about while still being very related to my overall ideas.

I will use this article to add on to all of my ideas. It will allow me to talk about the legal

side of genetic modification. This will add a paragraph or two. There are many different opinions

on how it all should be illegal which is a point I can talk about. It also talks about the legal issues
a child who is genetically modified might have which I will be able to implement into my paper

throughout as support or to strengthen my opposing arguments.

Chung, Yuehtsen Juliette. "Better Science and Better Race?: Social Darwinism and Chinese

Eugenics." Isis 105.4 (2014): 793-802. Web. 19 Apr. 2017.

This source covers the general idea of eugenics and genetically modifying for medical

reasons, but in China. It explores how this relates to other places and people around the world

and not just the United States. It covers the moral ideas they have and how they explain the need

to do it.

I believe that having a paragraph about how this is affecting other countries and how they

have similar opinions on it as me, will be a great way to strengthen my argument through the

paper. I will be able to include facts and support from a different country who has a completely

differ society and culture than the U.S. I think it will not only strengthen my view but also add a

lot of interesting ideas to my paper.

Iredale, Rachel, Marcus Longley, Christian Thomas, and Anita Shaw. "What Choices Should We

Be Able to Make about Designer Babies? A Citizens Jury of Young People in South

Wales." Health Expectations. Blackwell Publishing Ltd, 08 Aug. 2006. Web. 17 Apr.

2017.

This source helped me get fresh ideas. It helped me expand on topics. In addition, it

helped me find new topics and ensure my paper would be 15 pages long. It had interesting view
points towards the idea of pro designer babies. Will help me work on a strong counterargument.

Overall, it was very helpful to my research.

I will be using this source for my counterargument. It has many strong facts an opinions

that will make it much stronger. It also talked about things that I hadn't even thought about which

I believe will help me to talk about more things in my counterargument.

Mehta, Parendi. "Human Eugenics: Whose Perception of Perfection?" Society for History

Education 33.2 (2000): n. pag. Web. 19 Apr. 2017.

This source is an older source, but has a lot of good information on how eugenics works.

It focuses on the idea of designer babies, why people would want to design their children, how

we are able to do so, and why it is becoming popular. This source had a lot of very good

information in it.

I will be using this source as my main source for the designer baby topic in my paper. It

has many facts and interesting points that I will be able to use throughout. It also covers a little

more than one opinion, so I will be able to better understand both sides. I also believe that it

covers the most information about eugenics and will help me to make a stronger part of my

paper.

Rakowski, Eric. "Who Should Pay for Bad Genes?" California Law Review 90.5 (2002): 1345.

Web. 19 Apr. 2017.

This article is a little bit older, but it has a lot of strong information. It deals with the

medical side of the genetic modification and the morals about it. It has strong details explain how
it can be used to save lives medically, and then the ideas about the wrong and right in saving

lives with this process. It includes really strong research that I believe will strengthen my points

and explanations in my paper.

I will be using this source as my main source for the majority of my paper. I will use it to

describe my pro side of using genetic modification medically. It will offer good ideas for when I

write about the science and morals behind medical needs for it. I will definitely be referencing

this a large amount in my paper to strengthen my ideas and to prove my opinion.

"Genetically Modified Animals." SpringerReference (n.d.): n. pag. Web.

It was an updated source. It had a lot of information and facts that I was able to use. It

focused a large amount on the science and statistics of times where this has been done on animals

and how it would relate to humans. How recent the information was gave the source more credit.

I learned a lot of new things because of this.

I plan to use this source as background knowledge for my paper. It will be useful in

explaining how people started to use and support the idea of genetic modification. It will also be

useful when I want to reference a statistic. I will be able to just go back into this source and find

one that works.

"Manipulating the Human Genome." CQ Researcher by CQ Press. N.p., n.d. Web. 17 Apr. 2017.

It was very scientific. This source helped explain the science aspect of it which overall

helped my understanding of how it worked. By doing so it strengthened my understanding of the

process of genetic modification, thus strengthening my arguments. It was a very valuable source

that I learned a lot from.

I will use this source in my paragraph where I explain how it works. I think this will be

very strong for when I want to work on my Frankenstein Effect. I will allow me to explain how

we are able to do this, while then going into why we shouldnt. This source will help me prove

that I know what I am talking about and make the reader want to listen to me.

"Public Objections to Designer Babies and Cloning in USA: Not Quite What Was Expected."

Robert Edwards Resource Centre on Invitro Fertilization IVF RSS. N.p., n.d. Web. 17

Apr. 2017.

The website was useful in strengthening my con argument. It presented different opinions

and my con paragraph will benefit greatly from it. It included different opinions people had and

the reasons for their opinions. It was helpful in showing the other side of the argument.

I will be using this source to strengthen my con argument in my research paper. This

source will allow me to use quotes to fully show their opinion. I also will be using it for different

ideas and ways to strengthen my con paragraphs overall.
