EDUC 386 Documentation: Extra-Curricular Event

Summation:

I assisted Just Jazz as a volunteer. I arrived and was given a fancy white shirt, a bow
tie, and a cummerbund to wear. After helping fill pitchers with tea, lemonade, and
water, I was given an assignment for which table to serve as a waiter. I then stocked
my cart with pitchers and deserts. White waiting to serve and during serving, I
talked to students also volunteering and assisted them with any questions and
concerns. Once serving was over, I assisted in cleaning up.

What did you learn?

Having never been a waiter, I admit I was a bit nervous to volunteer. Fortunately,
our serving time did not involve many duties from actual serving. No need for
remembering orders here. Beyond the assigned duties, I took the initiative to calm
and assist student volunteers that needed it, and talk to those who wanted to pass
the time. Being a part of the school community felt great and I certainly plan to
volunteer for such extra-curricular activities in the future. I could feel the
appreciation from those that ran the event and am glad I could be a help to Webber.
Most importantly, being there to serve as an example to students and to assist and
lead them when necessary was very fulfilling.
