Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members,

Welcome to Fort Collins High School, home of the Lambkins! My name is Mr. Oren
Logan and I am excited to welcome you to the music program here. This is my first semester as a
teacher here and I look forward to creating a rich environment with you, where everyone can
learn to teach, teach to learn, expand external cultural experiences, and explore inner inspirations
and conception of self through the vast world of language that is music.
I first discovered my passion for music, teaching, and learning growing up in Western Colorado,
and I further pursued this passion as a music education student at Colorado State University in
Fort Collins, Colorado. Here I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be a part of
programs such as the Middle School Outreach Ensembles (MSOE), and student teach with
master teachers from across the Front Range.
In my first semester at Fort Collins High School, I look forward to getting to know each and
every one of you. I look forward to sharing my ideas, knowledge, and passion, but I also cant
wait to discover and incorporate the vast culture of inspiration and experiences that you will
share with me.
This year, classes will start on Thursday August 18th, and our Marching Band Camp will start on
Monday August 8th in the McNeal Auditorium. In the meantime, I would like to invite you to a
band booster luncheon next Saturday, August 6th at 1pm in the Fort Collins High School Band
Room. If you are unable to attend, I can also be reached at ologan@rams.colostate.edu for any
questions or concerns you might have! I hope you enjoy the rest of summer vacation!

Sincerely,

Mr. Oren Logan

Student Expectations:

Attendance: Attendance is a mandatory part of band rehearsal. In order to have an absence or

tardy excused, Mr. Logan must be given a two-week notice via email prior to the absence or
tardy. Absences from concerts or other performances must be given one-month prior to the
performance. Any work or rehearsal missed because of an excused absence or tardy can be made
up through recording or research assignment. Any time missed due to unexcused absences
cannot be made up. Emergencies are a very real part of life. If you find yourself in a family or
otherwise emergency, please contact Mr. Logan as soon as possible, and everything can be made
up.
Peformances: Students are expected to prepare for and perform in all formal and informal
playing opportunities such as concerts, classroom presentations, group discussions, etc. A
student that doesnt practice their instrument, prepare classwork, or show up for band concerts,
not only hurts their opportunities to learn, it also hurts everyone elses. Music requires
teamwork, and students not working as part of a team will take opportunities away from others.
Materials: Come to class prepared with the following materials
All required music (any piece of music lost must be payed for by the student)
Instrument
3+ Reeds, mouthpieces, and other accessories (such as mutes for brass)
Pencil

Any liquid besides water (must be a sealed container)
No food (no gum either)
Before and After Class: You will be expected to assemble your instrument and get set up for
class in the passing period before rehearsal/lessons. Downbeat starts as soon as the bell rings.
You will be given the last 2-3 minutes of class to put your instrument away and help set up for
the next class period.
Equipment: The instrumental, sound, and other equipment in the band room, auditorium,
practice rooms, etc. can be extremely expensive. Please respect the equipment.
Do not place anything on top of the pianos or other instruments.
Put away all instruments after you are done using them.
Rack stands and chairs after each lesson (or set up for the next class)
Turn off all electronic equipment (turn down volume on all sound equipment before
hitting the power button)
Clean instruments at least once a week (swab personal instruments, clean mouthpieces,
etc.)
Remove all trash from the floor after each class.
It is the students accountability to pay for any repairs or replacements due to breaking or
damaging any equipment due to their own actions.
Percussion instruments are covered and placed back in their spot at the back of the room.
Practice: Students are expected to practice 30 minutes a day 4 days a week on each instrument
they play for each ensemble. Mr. Logan will be available before, after, and during school to
allow access to the practice rooms.
Classroom Environment: Students are expected to be respectful of each other and others ideas.
Any detrimental or harmful behavior in the classroom will result in a redirect, a warning, an after
class conversation, and then a call to parents.

Teacher Expectations:

The Teacher is Expected To:

2. Encourage individual and group progress through feedback, assessment, and peer
teaching.
3. Provide band members with a full list of expectations, rehearsal/performance schedules,
and other resources.
4. Continually ask for and receive feedback, and seek new ways of reaching out to students.
5. Be able to perform proficiently on every instrument.
6. Continue to be a life-long learner, and pursue/incorporate new ideas from conferences,
peers, and students.
7. Offer students any help they may need during office hours before and after school.
8. Provide technology resources to complete assignments or listening objectives.
9. Demonstrate professional teaching etiquette and musicianship.
