5.2 Quantity of Anodes for Tank Bottom Plate

Impressed Current CP System is proposed for protection of Tank Bottom Plate. The
system consists of MMO Linear Anodes with Transformer Rectifier Unit and other
accessories. The ICCP System shall provide protection against corrosion to the tank
bottom plate.

The quantity of anodes used is determined by current distribution and the size of the
tank protected, desired service life. Design is selected to ensure good current
distribution while providing an economic design life.

Based on the calculation above, minimum current required by each tank bottom plate is
6.2 amps. In view of possible current leakage to the tanks earthing system and
pipelines, our proposal shall base on adequate current distribution.

In reference to MMO Wire anode datasheet, each meter will provide at least 1 amp.
The tank bottom design also influences in the quantity of anodes. Hence, we propose;

Proposed Nos of Rings: 4 sets.

Ring 1 @ 4 mtr = 11 mtr Wire Anode + 45 mtr Cable tail
Ring 2 @ 11 mtr = 33 mtr Wire Anode + 38 mtr Cable tail
Ring 3 @ 18 mtr = 55 mtr Wire Anode + 31 mtr Cable tail
Ring 4 @ 25 mtr = 77 mtr Wire Anode + 24 mtr Cable tail

Each of the Wire anodes will have cable tail for termination at the Ex-rated Junction
Box located outside the tank bund wall. The Wire anodes shall be laid in concentric
design (circular).

Lerwick proposes 50 Volts / 15 amps DC Output Transformer Rectifier Unit, after taking
into consideration of possible resistance shift in the future.

The Air-cooled TR Unit will require input power source of 415 volts/3 phase/50 Hz.
Location of the the TR Unit shall be indoor or outdoor. Enclosure shall be at least IP55
painted to RAL7032.

5.3 Quantity of Anodes for Buried Pipelines

Sacrificial Anode CP system is proposed for Buried Pipelines. The system consists of
Sacrificial Magnesium Ribbon to provide protection against corrosion to the external
surface of the pipeline.

With reference to Magnesium Ribbon anode datasheet, each meter weighs 0.34 kg.
Hence, Magnesium anode for each of the pipelines required as follows;
should be 30 years.
Minimum anode weight, 8 Pipeline:
Current Req x 8760 x 10 yrs
should be adjusted 1230 x 50%
with the adjusted
current density
= 1.18 x 8760 x 10 / 1230 x 0.5
= 168.1 kg

Minimum Magnesium Ribbon length for 8 Pipeline:

Min Anode Weight / Anode Weight per mtr
= 168.1 / 0.34
= 494.4 meter

Therefore, the 8 Pipeline shall have 3 lengths of Magnesium Ribbon buried next to the
Pipeline. Total length of Magnesium Ribbon shall be 185m x 3 = 555 meter (Total)

Minimum anode weight, 16 Pipeline:

Current Req x 8760 x 10 yrs
1230 x 50%

= 2.36 x 8760 x 10 / 1230 x 0.5

= 336.2 kg

Minimum Magnesium Ribbon length for 16 Pipeline:

Min Anode Weight / Anode Weight per Mtr
= 336.2 / 0.34
= 988.8 meter

Therefore, the 16 Pipeline shall have 3 lengths of Magnesium Ribbon buried next to
the Pipeline. Total length of Magnesium Ribbon shall be 185m x 6 = 1110 meter
(Total)
