By WarriorX 03/17/11 Just want to start off thanking DCS for making a true Simulator. It has been a long time since the last attempt at a U.S. combat airframe at this level of fidelity. The need for this Hung Store Guide is a testament to that level of fidelity. This guide is designed to help the reader clear a hung store created by the pilot not pressing and holding down the weapon release pickle button for the correct length of time. In order to avoid getting a hung store in the future, remember to press and hold the pickle until you hear or see that the store is released. The length of time pressing and holding the weapon release button is generally for 2-3 seconds. If you tap and release the weapon release button, you will most likely get a hung store. 1 2 3 4 5 This Guide references button presses on the bezel of the Left MFCD. 20 6 19 7 The buttons are arranged on all 4 sides 18 8 of the MFCD and are referred to as OSB 17 9 Buttons. 16 10
Each side of the MFCD has 5 OSB
Buttons. 15 14 13 12 11
The OSB Buttons are identified by a
numbering system that begins with the top row, left most button, and continues clockwise around the MFCD bezel. This concept is illustrated in the image to the left with the yellow numbers around the MFCD bezel. This guide will provide pictures when possible, but it is imperative that you know how to navigate to, and interact with, the various sub pages needed to clear a hung store. You will be interacting with the following pages: DSMS, and its sub page the INV (Inventory) page, the Display Program Page, the DTS UPLOAD page, and the STAT (System Status) page. All can be accessed on the Left MFCD. Youwill be interacting with many screens, pushing a lot of OSBs. Flying and staring at MFCDs do not mix, so I suggest a controlled orbit while you work this out. Here is how. Finda safe area to do a wide orbit. Set your autopilot to ALT and then make a left or right banking level turn and hold it. Then engage the autopilot and ensure it is holding the turn and you have no elevation conflicts around you. The indication for a hung store is the station graphic for the hung station turns red. H Since no graphic of the hung store is available in the manual, I did my best to represent an approximation of what it looks like.
Station 5 in the image to the left has a
hung store indicated with a red H.
The Hung Station Box will not be filled
in with white
Remember which Station number is
hung, as you will need this information later in the STAT page to locate the correct 1760 Station. Press OSB 5 to H access the INV Sub Page. Make sure you know what Class and Type of H store that is hung before you begin. (Hint: it is written inside the red box of the hung station.) For example, CBU 105 would be Class = CBU, and Type = CBU105 Press OSB 20 next to the hung Station, to begin the steps of weapon classification. You will be prompted with menu selections around the OSB buttons to select the correct Class of weapon. (OSB 6-8, OSB 18-20) In the image to the left, you can see the Weapon Class choices. (There is a Weapon Type Page that is below this page, but there is no image for it.) Press the OSB that corresponds to the Class of weapon that is hung. (e.g. CBU) Once you choose the Weapon Class, another page will come up giving you choices for Weapon Type (e.g. CBU 105) Once you have chosen the Weapon Type, press OSB 9 next to the LOAD text to reload the Station. Press OSB 1 next to the STAT text to return to the DSMS Main Page. Once at the DSMS Main Page, hit OSB 12 STAT to go to the STAT (System Status Page) If you make an error at any point you can hit OSB 2 RET (Return) to return to the previous page. After clearing a hung store you will then need to reset the power to the station belonging to the hung store in the STAT Page. OSB 1 will allow the user to scroll between pages 1 and 2. The 1760 Stations are usually on page 1. Using the arrow symbols next to OSB 19 and OSB 20, scroll down to the 1760 Station that had the hung store. To find the correct Station, the 1760 Stations are listed with a dash and a number. (e.g. 1760-5) We had a hung store on Station 5, so this is the one we want to select. A small green arrow will move down the left side of the selections to indicate which item is selected. Press the OSB next to POWER to cycle the power off then back on, to clear the FAIL status. (The POWER text is not in the picture to the left, but it is there when you select a 1760 Station) You are going to need to access the DTS UPLOAD page in order to reload the cleared Station into the DSMS Weapon Database.
During flight the DTS UPLOAD page is
not listed on OSB 12-15, so we need to change one existing menu item for the DTS UPLOAD menu item.
To make the swap, press and hold any
of the OSBs from 12-15 until the MFCD DISPLAY PROGRAM PAGE is shown. (Shown at left)
Select the OSB next to the LOAD text.
It will highlight when selected. (In the Display Program Page, LOAD represents the DTS UPLOAD Page) Then press the OSB on the bottom row that you held to access the MFCD Display Program Page.
That OSB will now change to read LOAD. Press the OSB now labeled LOAD again to access the DTS UPLOAD PAGE. (Page shown at left)
Press OSB 10 to LOAD
ALL (The dots will disappear and when they reappear, the DTS Upload is complete) Press the DSMS OSB on your MFCD and check the previously hung Station. It should now show green and ready.
