I chose to reflect on the internship report of Jenci Declerck, about his experience at

Bahia Principe Hotels in Mexico. I chose this report as I am very interested in the
hotel sector, but also in Spanish speaking countries in Latin , and South America. I
am aware that the first impression of a country can come across as poor, but living
there will show its actual beauty. I did a lot of research on this topic, as my
boyfriend asked me to move to Colombia, and I experienced it when I travelled to
Old San Juan in Puerto Rico.

According to the description of the tasks and responsibilities of the internship, I am

sure there are many talents I can showcase during this outstanding opportunity. To
start, I am responsible and dare to initiative. During my internship as a school
counselor, I was told that I lacked these skills, and decided to improve them
immediately. Which lead them to be listed as my best qualities during my second
internship in a psychiatry.

Further, it seemed that Mr. Declerck had several tasks to fulfill at the same time. I
have good planning, and prioritizing skills, which ensures me that I will be able to
complete all tasks sufficiently daily. A good, prioritized schedule will enable me to
organize the communication channels in a proper way and stay on top of my work.
Although, I must mention that I am sensitive to stress, and at times experience
difficulties remaining calm, not in front of the clients, but at home after work. So
that is the first challenge I will be facing, but also something I am looking forward to
work on.

During my previous studies, I enjoyed practical classes on communicative abilities,

and gained experience on cross-functional teamwork during the internships. On top
of my experience, it was pointed out by a teacher this semester, that I have
excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Thats why I believe that
interacting with clients, will cause no problems for me. Nevertheless, customer
service and problem solving, is currently limited to theoretical knowledge. Besides,
my course specific knowledge and skills are not specialized to the hotel sector. This
makes me believe that applying technical skills might be another challenge, as each
organization uses their own system and have a specific way of working. However,
my educational history proofs that I am driven to keep learning. With this life
learning attitude on top of my high motivation, I am sure that the skills that are
currently underdeveloped, will quickly be improved.

Doing an internship at Bahia Principe Hotels, will be an opportunity for me to

improve my existing skills, listed above, but also to learn many skills specific to the
hotel industry. Which will be of added value for my career, as the hotel sector is
something which interests me a lot. Furthermore, I am interested in Mexicos people
culture, and food. Together with my fluency in Spanish, due to daily practice with a
personal contact, make me believe that working for Bahia Principe Hotels Mexico,
will be of high value for me, but also for the local staff. They help me developing
those skills needed in the hotel sector, and in return I can give them fresh insights
and an international idea. In the end, I hope to be able to decide whether this
industry is something where I would really like to pursue a career in, as I believe I do
now.

To conclude, I would like to say that I am an independent, motivated and

responsible student, that will give herself completely, to end this experience
positively, and leave a good impression to the organization. I am looking forward to
enhancing my competences during this interesting country, in an even more
interesting organization.
