Unit 4 Insisting and Urging

Goal: Using various scenarios and questions, students will learn and practice how to
insist on something.

A. Convince Me Dialogue
-Review the chart below.
-Play the two interests slides prepared for Unit 3.
-For each slide, have the students go through the dialogue below.
-Then, have two student groups stand up to perform their dialogue for each slide.

(write this on the board)

B. Practice Intonation
Lead the students in reading through CTS 2 Unit 4 Part A 1 (p. 29).
-Go through each sentence with the students, asking them what it means, what the main
point(s) of each sentence might be, and which specific words might be emphasized.
-Model reading the sentence, placing emphasis on different words.
C. Compose Dialogue
-First identify the main topic of the dialogue and find the things that the driving instructor
insists upon. He insists that:
-His student memorize all the traffic rules and regulations word for word (insists)
-He take the written exam within the next week. (insists)
-His student get a lot of practice driving3 hours a night. (bent on, pushing)
-Using the information above, write another dialogue between the driving instructor and Xiao
Hu. Perform for the class.
