METEOROLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES - Flight Operations

Able to predict the presences of specific hazards given appropriate weather reports. Able
to develop alternatives for operation to avoid or mitigate the hazard exposure
For this grading criteria topic I choose an artifact from my meteorology class. This
assignment lasted the entire semester every class we would make a meter report based off of the
weather findings that we would gather from various different weather stations and reports. This
helped me become better at finding the weather that was important to me for my flights and it
helped me become my own weather forecaster.
Able to acquire time relevant weather information from National Weather Service/FAA
approved sources and media sources. Synthesis: Uses the information to maintain a
generalized personal awareness of weather patterns potentially impacting the flight
operations.
This artifact helped me with knowing when and where the storms were going to hit and
how big they were going to be. Meteorology is very interesting because as a pilot there are so
many weather phonemes that occur and when you study meteorology you learn why and how
these things actually happen.
Operates with consideration of environmental impacts of aircraft emissions. Actively
encourages others to operate aircraft with consideration of elevated emissions.
This class helped me understand an important aspect to flying as well. Winds are different
at all altitudes this plays a part when it comes to flight planning. If the winds at a higher altitude
will help you get to your destination faster and with burning less fuel you will want to fly at that
altitude that helps you with the flight.
Applies specific aircraft noise abatement practices minimizing the aircrafts noise
footprint.
I believe this topic area is referring to the noise output of the aircraft and the regulations
that that airports have in place that keep the aircraft noise to a minimum when the airports are
surrounded my communities and houses. We talked about this a lot in aviation law and all the
complaints and law suits that people try to file against airports.
