Bicep circumference to

the number of pull ups

done

By:Kameron Haines & Noah Knepp

Introduction

Our project is to see if the size of your bicep affects the amount of
pull-ups a person can do.
We predict that the bigger your bicep circumference the more
pull-ups you can do with a positive moderate strength.
We used a sample survey to gather our data
Data set
A population is the entire group of individuals being studied
Our population was students and teachers at DASD
A Sample is the part of the population from which we collect data
Our sample was 23 students and 2 teachers at DASD
A variable is any characteristic of an individual
Our explanatory variable was Bicep Circumference, and our response
variable was number of pull-ups
We chose bicep circumference for our
explanatory and number of pull-ups as our
response because the number of pull-ups you
can do is based on your bicep circumference
Graph
The outliers (15,29) and
(15,5) are outliers because
the don't fit close to the
regression line.
r & r2
Correlation describes the direction and strength of a straight line
relationship.
If r = 0.524 then correlation is positive meaning as the size of biceps
increase then the number of pull ups increase.
This means the correlation is moderate and is semi valid.
Coefficient of determination is the variation in the values of y that is
expanded by the least squares regression of y on x.
Our coefficient of determination is 0.275 this means that any
prediction made there would be a 27.5% variation.
Prediction
A regression line is a straight line that predicts the y
value for a given x value.
Y=2.364x-17.795 is the regression line we got for our data
set. Y=2.364(12)-17.795.
Y=10.573. If you have a bicep size of 12 inches, then i
predict you will be able to do 10.573 pull-ups with a 27.5%
variation.
Lurking Variables
Lurking variables are variables that have an important effect on the
relationship studied but are not the explanatory variables studied
Two of the lurking variables that affected our data are weight and gender
Both are common response because the more you weigh the more
you have to pull up and generally guys can lift more than girls
Conclusion
Our hypothesis was that if you had a bigger bicep circumference
then you could do more pull-ups than if you had a smaller bicep
circumference.
Our hypothesis was correct, the data had a correlation of .524. The
correlation was positive meaning as the bicep circumference
increases the number of pull-ups able to be done increases.
The strength of the correlation is .524 which is moderate meaning it
is semi-valid.
