Overview of Issue

The problem that our nonprofit is trying to raise awareness and make an impact for is the
problem of human trafficking. Our nonprofit is aimed towards everyone. Specifically, our target
audience is youth as they are the ones most affected by the issue and will be the next generation
that can make a difference with the issue. But also because, "The average age for a trafficking
victim is between 12 and 14" ("11 Facts About Human Trafficking") and "Approximately 1.2
million kids are trafficked every year" ("U.S. Department of Education Releases New Guide on
Identifying and Preventing Child Trafficking in Schools"). Also, "There are between 14,500 and
17,500 trafficked every year in the U.S." and "There are approximately 20 to 30 million salves
worldwide" ("11 Facts About Human Trafficking"). All of these numbers might just seem like
numbers at first. But that's millions of young and old people taken away from their normal lives,
never to return to it again. The reason why human trafficking is such a big deal is because its
victims are stripped of their normal lives once they've been trafficked and can never go back to
living the same way again. Physically, emotionally, mentally, psychologically, they're different
once they've been trafficked. The main two reasons people are trafficked are for the purpose of
forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation ("FACT SHEET: HUMAN TRAFFICKING
(English)"). As free human beings, we should never be bought by another human for any
purpose. Everyone deserves a life of freedom, not of slavery.

Mission Statement and Philosophy

"Informing to prevent human trafficking and providing to those at risk"

The Bought Once Campaign is a nonprofit that aims to not only spread awareness and
information about human trafficking but also will be donating supplies to a local youth outreach
center that lowers the chance of youth being trafficked. Made up of four high school juniors, the
Bought Once campaign has a desire to inform more those who are unaware about the problem of
human trafficking so that it will lessen their chance of being trafficked and hopefully, those
around them. We also hope to provide the outreach center with supplies so that there is a smaller
number of those being trafficked. We want to get as many as we can involved with what we do
because we believe every person deserves freedom, happiness, and a full life.

Action Plan

Our short-term, immediate plan consists of two parts. The first part of is the social media
campaign primarily based on Instagram to spread awareness. It will involve young people and
older people posting pictures of themselves or with groups of people with the hashtag
#theboughtoncecampaign. We hope that this will appear in people's feed and will raise curiosity,
which will give the poster the opportunity to inform. The second part is donating supplies such
as clothing and hygiene items to a local youth center through church supply drives. We will also
be selling wristbands for $1 to people we know and all profits will go to buying supplies. This
youth center is run by Stand Up For Kids. It provides youth with recreational activities,
educational and employment opportunities, and most importantly, a secure and safe place to stay.
Because of all of this, this center decreases youth's chances of being trafficked. We are different
to this non-profit because we don't provide a shelter for those at risk and don't directly supply
victims. One of the most-known non-profits dealing with human trafficking is Polaris. Polaris
deals with the legal problems of human trafficking and has made it a crime in every state.
They've passed bills against trafficking and also have a hotline. Our non-profit does not deal with
the legal issues of trafficking. Thinking of the long-term growth of our non-profit, we hope that
the social media campaign could be an annual campaign and every May more and more would
participate. We also hope that in the future we could run more than once-a-year supply drives at
each of our churches. Lastly, we would like to have more funds and supplies donated each year
to be able to donate more each year to the center.
