Content Area: Blocks Chapter (pages): 236-262

How does this content area promote development in the following areas?

Social/Emotional-
Children negotiate the materials with others
They can determine how many children can work in the area
How they can care for the materials
Learn to follow the rules for building safe
Physical-
Childrens small muscle develop when they can carry the materials safely
They gain large muscle strength
They improve eye-hand coronation
Cognitive-
Children try to make sense of their own experiences by connecting to new materials
Reenact experiences and the new information by using blocks
Recreating their environment in a basis of thinking abstract
Language-
Children are willing to talk about their constructions when someone asks them about it
They increase their vocabulary skills when an adult asks about it
They can describe what they are doing
Creating an Environment:

Away from traffic and preferably determined by shelves
Ample amount of space
Near other noisy activities

Promotes understanding of books and other text
Teach children about printing letters and words
Math-
Teaching number concepts
Encourages children to explore pattern and relationships

Encourages children to explore physical science
Expands childrens knowledge of life science
Promotes understanding of the earth and understanding of the environment
Social Studies-
Encourages to learn about spaces and geography
Explore concepts related to people and how they live
The Arts-
Promotes drama skills
Natures the visual arts
Technology-
Helps children explore basic operations and concepts
Provides equipment for children to take pictures
The Teachers Role:
Block have the potential for stimulating imaginative, constructive play, ranging from arranging
blocks in simple designs to models.
The Familys Role:
Help your child to react the neighborhood that you live in and try to have them create interesting
buildings they might like to look at. Identify a place for your child to build and play with the block.
They can use realistic items such as pipes and ramps.
