Petitio Principii

Every night in the City of Manila, the streets are littered with corpses.

-The article contains a supposed inquisitive yet a very assumptive impression. It is an alleged message
for gullible Filipinos to allow this French reporter to make a documentary about the popularity of the
controversial President Duterte. The fallacy of petition principii is committed because even though the
supposed intent of the writer is to merely be informed as regard to the issue of extrajudicial killing that is
allegedly rampant in the Philippines, the content is way out of bound for someone who is inquiring or is
only in a stage of reaching a particular conclusion. The article maliciously assumes and seeks to prove
the same thing. The question about the alleged failure of the anti-drug campaign of the President has
been asked before in the same discussion, and then a conclusion about extrajudicial killing is reached on
a related matter without the question having been answered.

2. Argumentum Ad Antiquum

You have children and youre single ang tawag diyan na-ano lang,

-A statement of a senator. Yes, he did it again. Senator Sotto shamed a single mother of two. Though
quite ambiguous but this statement is collaborative with the fallacy of argument ad antiquum. The not so
humorous joke of the senator rooted from the double-standard tradition of having a perfect family with a
complete set of parents. And to be a single parent is a fresh in the eyes of the ruthless vultures of this so
called civilized period. That if you can raise your children as a single mother, all you will ever be is a
woman cannot keep her legs closed and who cannot satisfy your partner. No amount of exclamation point
can express the abhorrence of this practice. For superficial and perfunctory people, something is right or
acceptable just because "it has always been done that way."

3. Argumentum Ad Misericordiam

Kung sino pa ang may malasakit at may pagmamahal sa ating kalikasan siya pa ang hindi inapprove
bilang DENR Secretary.aano na ang kalikasan? Paano na ang kababayan natin?

- The article has for its object the news regarding the decision of the Commission on Appointments in
rejecting Gina Lopez to be the Executive Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources. The writer in this article expressed her vehement disappointment with the assailed decision.
The article cannot be described as a mere persuasive column. It is provocative in a sense that it reaches
out to the people to be sympathetic with the sentiments of the author by means of asking questions which
seeks to appeal pity and empathy. It is, of course, perfectly legitimate to point out the severity of a
problem as part of the justification for adopting a proposed solution. The fallacy comes in when other
aspects of the issue are ignored or responded to only with more impassioned pleas.
