Reflection on Genre Pieces

My audience is anyone that may be interested in a career in the field of

physical therapy. I chose this audience because it is a topic that I am

interested in and I know plenty of people in my major alone that are

interested in the topic of becoming a physical therapist so this is just

something that can help someone find a starting point for their

research on becoming a physical therapist. The purpose of my genre

pieces is to inform people of what it takes to become a physical

therapist starting from they are in college and I am writing about this

because I thought I should be working on something that I can learn

from too when I do research about the topic because of it being

something that I am considering to pursue as a career. The sources

that helped fulfill my purpose were the APTA website because it gave

me information on the educational aspect of what a prospective

student should be doing in college as well as the research they should

be doing into programs they may be interested in and my personal

interview with Mr. Essa helped with this project immensely as the Q&A

that I had with him is the main part of my brochure. I chose these

genres because I believed that they would go well together considering

that after reading the brochure the students that are interested in

physical therapy as a career would want to continue to the prezi to

learn a little bit more about the basics of becoming a physical

therapist. I believe that these genres would exist in a college advising

office and possible a physical therapy clinic where they may want

volunteers to come in and get some experience and knowledge on

what a physical therapist does on a daily basis. The order that they

should be read in is the brochure first then the prezi because the

brochure just creates some minor intrigue on what it takes and

includes the Q&A with Mr. Essa on it and then when they go look at the

prezi they get a chance to see what they should be focusing on

currently and can look forward to in the future. The modes of

communication that I rely on most heavily were visual and linguistic

due to the images and writing that I had throughout the brochure and

prezi to catch the eye of the reader. I appealed to the audience by

using logos by trying to reason out what it truly means to be a physical

therapist and that it isnt as easy as most would like to think it to be.

The timeliness of the piece or kairos is that you would most likely want

to present it to a freshman in college to see if you can get them

interested in this new field and possibly help them decide what they

may want to do in the future. I feel that my genre pieces were

successful in getting the attention of the target audience and that the

possible interest that would have been built up would then be used to

do research of their own so that the student can decide on their own if

they want to be a physical therapist.
