Executive Summary

This is a tender prepared by Elicturus in accordance with the design package created by Nebula
Explorations on behalf of EMPACT. This tender exhibits the reasons, why Elicturus is the most
compatible company to work with for this project.

Elicturus has successfully fulfilled all the prerequisite in the tender application prepared by Nebula
Exploration. The contractors of Elicturus have always maintained punctuality which is even
acknowledged by the designers of Nebula Exploration as they have provided written proof.

Our company have provided academic certificates and personality test results to prove that our team
consists of intellectual and self-disciplined people as specified by the tender evaluation criteria.

Our company consists of team members that are highly committed to their work. This is demonstrated
in the weekly progress reports of our team that is included in this tender.

Among other things communication is of great importance to us. Our team has provided suggestions
and replied to messages or emails within 12 hours as proven by the screenshots of emails.

All members of ELICTURUS are Punctual, hard-working and committed to their work. Thus, we at
Elicturus can ensure that the vehicle is created with the highest quality.

1.0 Introduction
This official paper is the tender submission for the Mars Rover project by EMPACT. This document
is made in accordance to Tender Evaluation Criteria on made by NEBULA EXPLORATIONS.

2.0 Analysis of Design Package


This portion of the document evaluates the design package of group 5E.

2.1 Main Components of the Car


The car is designed such that it has high stability which will help it to land successfully on its
wheels. The vehicle has 7 different components.

Body frame the body frame is divided into two parts (top and bottom).
Wheels
A protection layer for the wheels sponges used as cushions to protect the car upon landing.
The axle for the car cardboards are used to make the frame.
Straps used to hold the water bottle in place.
Cushioning for the water bottle Sponges are also used to make the layer.
Compartment for the water bottle.

2.2 The construction method


Plywood is used to make the top and bottom frames of the car. A saw is used to cut the boards
according to the dimension given in the design package. The top frame should be cut such that there is a
rectangular hole for the water bottle compartment.

There should be a layer of sponge that acts as a cushion and protects the container from impact.
The material for the axle is cardboard. Cylindrical canisters are used wheels, as they have a high width
they provide more stability. And on straps are used on top of the top frame of the car to make sure that
the object which is being carried by the car is not displaced.

2.3 Agreement with the client brief


The maximum dimensions of the car specified in the client brief for length, width and height are
420mm x 297mm x 210mm respectively. The dimensions of the car for length, width and height are
300mm x 106mm x 60mm respectively.

The pricing of the car must be below or equal to 30RM and the total cost of the car is 22.2Rm. Thus, the
design of the car is in accordance with the requirements in the client brief.

2.4 Concerns and improvements
Elicturus has mainly three issues with the design.

The distance between the straps is not mentioned and also the distance from the start of the longest
side of the car till the straps is unspecified.
The distance between the base of the car and the ground.
Skewers are used for connecting the wheels and skewers are malleable in nature.

The absence of these measurements might lead to complications in the future and might result into a
product that is not up to the standards. A possible solution would be to rethink the design with these
measurements in mind. Skewers are usually long and thin in nature and thus there is a possibility of it
getting damaged during the testing phase. Adding extra protection around the axels such as more
cushioning might lead to an improvement in the axles.

3.0 Criteria
Please note that, everything in this section that is in italics is derived from or referred from the
design package which is in Appendix E. They are the criteria specified in the Tender Evaluation Criteria
of the design package and the response to it is written in normal text.

3.1 Punctuality
The contractor must contact the designers promptly, attend all the meetings on time, and should
never be late to the construction site, as it risks jeopardizing the entire project. The punctuality of the
each individual contractor will be based on their minutes of meeting, as well as consultation with his
colleagues.

We, at Elicturus recognizes that one of the key features of a successful team work is punctuality
and provide great importance to it. Thus, our team members are always on time. This can be proven by
the minutes of meeting, which is in Appendix A.1. Also, there is a written letter in Appendix A.2 from the
designing company acknowledging that SAAD MAHMUD, one of our contractor was on time for the
meeting held on 07/04/2017.

3.2 Commitment
The contractors must be willing to do the work that is assigned to him, and consistently finish his
work. The WPRs will be examined to judge how committed the client is to his work

Everyone in our team is highly committed to their assigned work. The Weekly progress Reports
of our company displays the dedication of our team towards completing their objective. The weekly
progress reports are attached in Appendix B.1.

3.3 Communication
The person must be able to communicate and express his/her ideas to the team effectively, and
at the same time be able to understand simple instructions. The client will be judged based on any
written work.

We know communication is crucial for a successful project. Thus, we try to convey our
suggestions or views as efficiently as possible. The emails in Appendix C.1 shows that suggestions for
amendments of design package was sent to the designing company.

3.4 Intellect
The Desig ers prefere e of I telle t is u dersta di g the te h i al aspe t of the Desig
Package. Intellect will be measured through varieties of method; ITP Personality Test, Contractor and
Designer Meetings (The analysis of intellect will be conducted using a holistic approach where the
Designers will judge through a series of questions and communications during meetings. Minutes of
Meetings will be required as proof.) and grades of any three subjects within year 10-12, most preferably
scientific and mathematics subjects.

All the members of Elicturus are possess a good understanding of their respective work. The
academic certificates are included in the Appendix D.2 which provides a good understanding of their
knowledge. The personality test is also included in Appendix D.1 as required by the design package of
group 5E.

3.5 Self-discipline
Self Discipline will be judged based on the ability of the Contractors ti e of respo se of
messages, e-mails and meetings. (History of communication sent back and fro will be logged and used as
evidence). ITP Personality + Team test is also required and will be used to assess Self-Discipline.

Our contractors are immensely disciplined , which can be proven by the personality test included
in Appendix D.1 as well as the team test which is added in Appendix D.3. Communication history between
the contractor of group 1E and designer of Group 5E is also included in Appendix C.1, which provides
further evidence of self-discipline.

4.0 Construction Method

frame must be in a cuboid shape of
around measurements (130/300/10)
The sponge must be in a cuboid shape
with a measurement of around
(130/300/30) *Refer to Table 1 and
Drawings A02, A03, A04*

2. Use a ruler to measure out the raw


plywood and cut the plywood with a
saw in accordance to the
measurements listed above for the top
and bottom body frame. Cut the
Sponge using X-Acto Knife. *Refer to
Drawing A01, A1, A2 and E. And Drawing
A03.*

1. For the top body frame and sponge.


Make a rectangular hole in the center
of the top plywood *Refer to Drawing
A01, E* of the plywood to fit in the
bottle into that space. *Refer to Drawing
A04 and A03*

2. The distance of the rectangular


hole from the shortest side of the
edge of the top body frame must
be approx. 21.3mm and from the
longest side must be approx.
25.6mm. *Refer to Drawing A04*. The
depth of the rectangular hole (The
height of the Top-body frame +
Sponge layer) should be approx.
35mm. *Refer to Drawing A03*

3. Use saw to cut the plywood and


make the rectangular hole, then
use X-Acto knife to cut the sponge
25mm deep. *Refer to Drawing A03*

2. Cut out a rectangular piece of sponge


with an approximate dimension of

3. Use the rectangular sponge and roll it


onto the Cylindrical Can wheel,
bonding it with hot glue to create a
Wheel embedded with sponge *Refer
to Drawing A01, B1, B2 and Drawing A03*

4. Repeat these steps for four other


wheels

1. Use skewers and pinpoint the midpoint


of the bottom of the cylindrical can and
create a hole by applying force on the
skewer with a hammer to the bottom of
the can. You should have one end of
the skewer with the Cylindrical can
attached to it and the other end of the
skewer will be empty for now.

2. Use the empty end of the skewer and


place it in between of the gap of the
cardboard. Repeat Step 2 and 3 for
the empty ends of the skewer to create
a full set of wheels.

3. The final product should be a


cardboard frame with Cylindrical can
Wheels

1. Starting from the Bottom Body Frame,
add the cardboard with wheels, add
the Sponge Filling layer and add the
Top Body Frame. In each of these
steps, bond all components thoroughly
with hot glue. *The final product should
look similar to drawing A01*.

1. Attach the webbing buckle with a strap.

2. On each end of the straps, carefully


place it on top of the Top Body Frame
and use hot glue to attach it. There
should be Two buckle straps attached
on top of the Top Body Frame. *Refer to
Drawing A01, D1,D2 and Drawing A04*

3. Congratulations! All work completed.
