Praxis Core Exam Analysis

The Praxis exam is an exam given to aspiring teachers in order to continue with

their Bachelors degree. Colleges and Universities may use Praxis Core test to evaluate

individuals for entry into their education programs (Nevada Test Requirements). To pass

the Praxis Core Exam, the student must get a 156 on Reading, 162 on Writing, and 150

on Mathematics. The test may be taken separately or a combination of all three portions

of the test. If the student fails a portion of the tests, the student may then take that portion

or portions of the test after twenty-one days of taking the initial test. Passing the Praxis is

essential for obtaining a Bachelors degree at either UNLV, UNR or NSC. The Praxis is a

requirement for going into an educational program at a university or state school. Without

the Praxis, the student will not be able to declare a major in Education. Therefore students

must prepare in order to receive the scores that would enable him or her to continue their

education.
I have prepared for the Praxis test; however, I did not study for the practice test. I

took the Praxis in February. Even though I have prepared for the Praxis, I feel I did not

prepare well enough. I purchased a Praxis Core book from REA. I did the practice test

from the REA book and I went through what I missed from those practice tests. I also

studied some examples of what I may see on the test.

I received a 48% for my Reading Practice test. The grade I received tells me that I

need much more improvement in this area. According to the Teachers Test Prep website,

I will most likely not pass the Reading portion of the Praxis. I received 68% on my Math

and Writing practice test. Although a 68% is better than 48%, I am still at risk of failing

the Praxis test in the Writing and Math portion. A 68% is considered borderline; it is still

recommended that I study for improvement.

This really opened my eyes. I know now that I need to take my studying more

seriously than I did before. I have already begun to watch recommended videos. I am also

going to take advantage of the study guides provided by the Teachers Test Prep website.

The study guides provide the topics that are going to be on each portion of the test. In
order for me to pass the Praxis and continue my education, I will continue to make

improvements through the Teachers Test Prep website and the book I purchased through

REA.
