Field tests and sampling of soil during boring work were done as per Bureau of
of one and half times the width of foundation beyond the tentative foundation
level.
The report presents the analysis of test results and recommendation regarding
Safe bearing capacity of soil. The observed data of field investigation and
laboratory tests are presented and used to assess the nature of subsoil strata
and to evaluate the soil parameters required for the foundation design of the
proposed foundation.

2. OBJECTIVES,
OBJECTIVES, SCOPE OF WORK
WORK & WORK PLAN
The scope of the soil investigation work consisted of the following operations:
Sinking of 2 boreholes of 150mm diameter in normal soil upto 10m below the ground
level.
Conducting laboratory test on soil sample and preparation of soil investigation reports.
WORK PLAN
3
Recovering disturbed soil samples from various levels of sub/soil
strata at 1.0 m. intervals or at the change of strata which one
encountered earlier
Observing the ground water table and fluctuation in it.
Conducting laboratory tests on disturbed and undisturbed soil
samples recovered during field exploration.
Compiling and submitting report, containing field and laboratory
test results and recommendations regarding type, depth of
foundations, and load bearing capacity of the soil.
3. FIELD INVESTIGATION
Drilling works were carried out with the help of 150mm diameter Rotary drilling as per IS
: 1892. Soil exploration include boring and collection of undisturbed and disturbed samples and
standard penetration test. During boring operations, visual observations of the strata,
The soil that is being removed during drilling of boreholes has been regularly examined
for changes in the soil stratification. Disturbed representative samples were collected at
different depths or at the change of strata whichever encountered earlier. Disturbed samples
were also collected from the split spoon sampler used in the SPT. All the samples are properly

3.3 UNDISTURBED SAMPLING
Open drive samplers having very smooth finish inside, smeared with oil to reduce the
inside wall friction were used. Care was taken to cause little remoulding and disturbance during
equipment was used for the recovery of sample. After recovery of the sample from the bore
hole, and obvious disturbed soil at the both ends of the sampler were removed and the same
was cleaned and label properly for the purpose of laboratory tests.
Standard Penetration tests were carried out in bore hole. A standard split spoon
samplers with outside diameter of 50.8 mm and inside diameter of 35mm was given blows
repeatedly through a 65 kg annular hammer. Number of blows for each 15cm penetration of
the sampler was recorded till the samples penetrated by a depth of 45 cm. The first 15cm
penetration of the sampler was considered as the seating drive. The sum of blows
Penetration Resistance value and often known as N value. The tests were conducted as per
IS: 2131. The observed values are corrected for the overburden Pressure varying with depth.
4. LABORATORY TESTS
The laboratory tests performed to determine the physical properties and engineering
characteristics of the soils which were conducted in accordance with IS : 2720. The laboratory
The Atterberg limits tests were conducted, in accordance with IS: 2720 (Part V) 1985,

The soil samples collected from the bore holes were tested for the mechanical sieve
analysis for the purpose of identification and classification of soils and for the purpose of
Natural moisture and density tests were conducted on all the undisturbed soil samples
recovered from the bore holes to get an idea of in situ density and moisture
Particle size analysis were conducted on selected soil samples to determine the
Triaxial shear strength (UU) tests were conducted on undisturbed samples to obtain
necessary shear strength parameters of the soil. These parameters are required in
Varanasi.
The overall topography of the area is described as low land and pond is in the site.
Water level was met at ground level in the bore hole due to presence of pond near to the
bore hole. However in this area water level is deep below in this area.

5.2 SOIL PROFILE
At the proposed site, the soil investigation has been done for two locations and its depth was
10.0m below the ground level.
The sub soil formation at this location upto 10m depth comes in two stage
1. Silty clay
Yellowish silty clay of low plasticity is met at upper layer upto 3.0-4.0m below the
ground level.
After this layer yellowish silty clay of low to medium plasticity with kankar is met upto the
depth of boring.
The same type of soil is met upto the depth of boring with slight variation of silt and clay
with
The details of soil strata along with SPT N values are shown in bore log chart

6. Conclusions and Recommendations
Detailed Soil investigation report have be en prepared based on the site condition

7.2 CLOSURE
We appreciate the opportunity to submit this soil Investigation Report. The above
recommendations have been made on the basis of in-situ test and laboratory tests
conducted on the samples collected from the boreholes bored at the locations given by
the client. If during excavation, any unusual or abnormal features are noticed, these may
be brought to the attention of Geotechnical consultants before proceeding with
construction work for further suggestions.
