Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month, from September through May, at 7p.m.
in the Luther Manor Faith and Education Center, 4545 N. 92nd St., Wauwatosa, Wisconsin

New Members
New members are always welcome, as are visitors.
2016-2017 Dues
Dues are $20 single and $30 family for each meeting
year of September through May. Bring them to a
meeting or send them to Dixie Lowin, 2028 W. Ranch
Road, Mequon, WI 53092.
Luther Manor Exhibit
The club maintains a rotating display of prints at Luther
Manor and members are encouraged to bring 8 X 10
prints to any and all meetings for display. Give prints to
Pete Koenig, who maintains the display.
Image specs: resize images to 1920 x 1200 x 100 for
display through the clubs projector, which has a
resolution of 1920 x 1200.
From the Prez.
What a wonderful response we all had at our April
business meeting. Members volunteering to fill different
positions are what will keep Photo Pictorialists strong
and moving in the right direction. And we will have to
keep that attitude in the challenges that lie ahead. The
discussion that took place made it one of the best
business meetings our club has had in a long time. Our
year is now drawing to a close. In September Pauline
will be taking over as our president, and I cant think of
a more capable person. When we meet to plan the next
years agenda, I hope that many of you will come up
with some great ideas for various meetings.
Our year end competition is almost upon us. We have a
good amount of entries, even more in some areas than
our last competition. I have the scoring machine from
WACCO and should be picking up the medals in a week.
Richard is bringing the print box. We will be setting up
everything at 6:00 on that Thursday. Members are asked
to bring various snacks. The beverages will be handled
by one other person and me. The judges will be familiar
to most of you as they have judged at various times for
us in the past. Kathy Werlein, Bill Meyer, and Geri
Laehn will be doing the honors. I have invited them and
asked them to bring a guest to our year end pot- luck.
I hope that many of you are participating in the WACCO
spring competition. I will be able to take any of the
prints you have entered with me after our competition
and bring them back for our awards banquet.
The awards banquet/pot luck will be on May 18th. We
will gather at 6:00 and start the meal at 6:30. Pauline is
bringing the meat which will be paid by our club. All
the other dishes are up to our members. And please
remember that spouses are always part of our
celebration.
Decisions still have to be made about dates for our
meeting planning session and our picnic, but I think we
can do that quickly the night of the competition.

Monthly Topics
September 1The Things I Did Last Summer. A fun
photo meeting. Bring up to 6 images on a thumb drive,
formatted as noted above.
October 1
Constructive feedback as a tool for improvement.
Each member should select 2 of their best (competition-
worthy) images and send them to Sandra Weber in
advance of the meeting.
November 3
Physician and photographer Dr. Yong-ran Zhu will speak
on The Right Attitude on Life and Photography. Dr.
Zhu is a fine art photographer specializing in large
format work who integrates his life vision and his art. He
will bring some of his work. Club members are
welcome to invite guests.
December 1
Our annual holiday party. Bring your own liquid
refreshment and a dish to pass. Our entertainment will
be members images from outings and trips. Send up to
12 images to Sandra Weber in advance.
January 5
Wisconsin Print Circuit judging is our annual
opportunity to judge the work of other Wisconsin camera
clubs and an excellent time to see the work of other
clubs. Our prints will be judged by another club, and
they are due to Richard Yehl by Saturday, November 5.
February 2
Before, During and After is a chance for members to
show an image as taken, the final image, and the process
that took place between the two.
March 2
Macro Photography, Still Life images, Know Your
Camera, and Post-processing with Photoshop will
involve four stations staffed by Sandra Weber, Kathy
Braun, Pete Koenig, and Phil Block, respectively.
Members will spend half an hour at each station, rotating
among them. Bring your camera and tripod for this
night of hands-on learning.
April 6
Reminder: your prints and digitals for Mays
competition are due by the night of the April meeting,
along with completed scorecards for each submission
category. Youre encouraged to email your digital
images to Sandra beforehand. All digital photos emailed
to Sandra will be acknowledged as received with a
return email. ote the change in the Nature rules:
Cultivated flowers are allowed, in addition to
wildflowers. Also, bring your completed survey of
what you liked and disliked this year, and what you
would like from the club next year.
This meeting will include a fun photo show of our
images from your outings during the year. Send up to
10 images to Sandra Weber at least 3 days before the
meeting.
May 4
Year-end Competition. We have invited three
experienced judges to evaluate the print and digital
entries club members submitted in April.
This meeting will begin at 6:30, and we ask our
members to show respect for the judges by their silence.
May 18
Our year-end banquet. Bring your own liquid
refreshment and a dish to pass. Year-end awards will be
distributed. We will gather at 6:00 and dine at 6:30.

May 18: Potluck year-end party.
The 6th Annual WACCO exhibit will be Oct. 14 - Dec.
2 at The Blue (Reuss Federal Building downtown).
Deadline for submissions is Sept. 30, but you will want
to submit information about your framed print earlier, as
WACCO will be accepting a maximum of 90 pictures on
a first come, first served basis. Minimum size is a 16x20
frame, but larger prints, sized 16 x 20 (not including the
mat and frame), are highly encouraged for this large
exhibit space. Image guidelines for 2017 were passed
out at the March meeting, and are posted on the WACCO

ZIP MKE runs through May 31 at the Atkinson Library,
1960 W. Atkinson Ave. 27 Zip Codes, 1 City. ZIP MKE
is a unique photographic exhibit, originally an online
galler, celebrating the beauty and diversity, not the
division, of Milwaukee. Photographs come from
residents in every zip code, displaying Milwaukees

Milwaukee Public Museum: Free 1st Thursday of the
month.
Milwaukee Art Museum: Free to everyone 1st Thurs. of
the month - May 4, June 1. Open until 8 pm on
Thursdays.
At The Domes
Free on Mondays 9am-noon to all Milwaukee County
residents with ID. Hours: 9am-5pm M-Fri.; 9am-4pm
weekends. Regular admission $7 age 18+, $5 Milwaukee
County seniors, students 18 and under with ID and
children 6-17, accompanied by adult, $5. Age 5 and
under, free, accompanied by adult.
Boerner Botanical Gardens
9400 Boerner Drive, Hales Corners.
Admission is free on the first Tuesday of the month.
Discovery: Bees! 10am-noon, May 6. Learn about the
importance of bees, and visit Boerners hives for a safe,
up-close look at honeybees in action. $5
Retzer Nature Center - Waukesha

daily entrance fee. Grounds open sunrise to 10 p.m.
Museum Swap Day: May 7. If you have an annual
membership to any of the museums below, you can visit
other museums free on Swap Day. Go to the Milwaukee.
Public Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum, Grohmann
Museum, Charles Allis Art Museum, Villa Terrace, Betty
Brinn Childrens Museum, or Pabst Mansion. (Discovery
World is not included).
Milwaukee. Museum Mile Day: Free admission 11am-
4pm May 14 at Charles Allis Art Museum, Jewish
Museum, Museum of Wis. Art at St. Johns On the Lake,
and Villa Terrace. Special discount at North Point
Lighthouse. Museums close to each other on East side.

While youre out on May 14, look for artists painting
outside as part of the Plein Air Milwaukee 2017 event.
Painters will be out May 11-17.
Also, watch artists make a painting in 2 hours in the
Quick Paint competition: May 13: along Brady St. and
May 14: along Prospect Ave. (between Juneau and North
Ave.) 8am-5pm.

Milwaukee County Zoo
Reduced admission Wednesdays for Milwaukee County
residents with ID is $8 adults; $5.50 ages 3-12. On other
days, Milwaukee County residents w/ID save $1.75 off
regular admission. No discounts on parking.
Mothers Day May 14: All mothers admitted free.
Fathers Day, June 18: All fathers admitted free.
Family Kite Festival at Veterans Park: 10-6 May 27 &
10-5 May 28. Grand Launch of 500 kites on Sat noon.

Milwaukee Public Museum Free admission to all on
1st Thursday of the month. Milwaukee County residents
with ID get $2 discount every day.

(butterfly wing closes at 4:45pm).

veterans/members of the military on Memorial Day.

Global Kitchen: Food, Nature, Culture Celebrate food
from around the world and at our own tables. Includes
sections on growing, transporting, cooking, eating,
tasting, and celebrating. Visitors will use all five senses
as they explore all things food. Cost, which includes
admission to the entire Museum and Planetarium, is $25
for adults, $20 seniors 65+, $18 for ages 5-13.
If you go on the first Thursday of the month (free day),
your only expense is $7 (adult); $6 (seniors), or $6
(youth) for the special exhibit. Runs through July 19.
