DIGIPAK:

The fairly simplistic and monotonal style of my digipak is a convention that I

used from existing music artists covers (Ariana Grande-Yours Truly, Foxes-
Glorious and Adele 21) all of which feature very little if any text, information or
images. Another album cover which inspired my product was Drakes Hotline
Bling, I was attracted to the repetitive text, therefore I developed this to be my
aesthetic for my CD style. The pop genre uses bright colours and stereotypically
looks very eye catching, I used this convention in my images used on my digipak
however my text and other elements of my digipak of monochromatic to add a
polished and professional look to my product.
Barcodes, Terms and Conditions, the Record labels logo and the artists/albums
name and catalogue number are all typical features and conventional aspects
found on almost all existing media products such as digipaks. This was clearly
acknowledged during my intensive research stage of this process. Having extra
images of my artist was a convention taken from Rhiannas LOUD digipak, I
developed the large layout of a single image of Rhianna to a collage of some
quirky images of my artist along with a continued appearance of the text
SHONA. The images I took of Shona were shot in the same style as images Id

seen of Zara Larsson, a female artist with a correlating audience as my artist. As

shown below:

This particular style of photography puts all focus on the artist with a plain
background and a range of body movement to create interest in each shot. It
also conforms to the male gaze as the artist is a picture of beauty. This
convention has proven to be popular and effective as shown by the success of
various artists, including Zara Larsson, in being an appealing pop artist in a
competitive industry.
MAGAZINE ADVERT:
My magazine poster is very bold and eye-catching, the font
is inspired by boxing posters in order to create continuity
from the music video to the poster and digipak. I really like
the layout of this poster, it looks bold and powerful. I
empower my own magazine advert with this kind of
structure. The fonts are different on the boxing poster
therefore I developed this on my own, I used a consistent
font however with different levels of style like all black or
all white with a black outline (e.g colour, size etc). This
connotes a dominant powerful representation of my artist
which is the look I was keen to portray. I also like the
minimalist colours on the poster, I have challenged the
genre conventions of bright and colourful to create a 'cool'
look, I have added a splash of colour in my images but have monochrome
typography. The font is all monochromatic to again create continuity with my
digipak. The image is eye-catching as it infers the use of the male gaze theory
but also the direct address gives the poster a likelihood of success in catching
the audiences eye. Another magazine advert which inspired my product was Ellie
Gouldings album Lights. Similarly, as my digipak contains the record label, I
used this on my magazine advert and I also used the iTunes logo in order to
conform to conventions of magazine adverts and show my audience an available
resource to find the album.
