Clnica Amistad Professional Activity Experience Reflection

Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with

(be specific about the purpose and your role):
I regularly contribute to the effort of Clnica Amistad, which is a volunteer clinic that serves the
uninsured. Here I assist with various volunteering positions including taking vital signs,
completing triage questioning, scheduling follow-up appointments, and working alongside
providers to run errands, translate, and keep records for each patient.

Where was this held and what was program/activity length?

Clnica Amistad is in South Tucson, an area known as The Barrio, where mostly Hispanic
(Mexican), Spanish-speaking people live. I have volunteered close to 40 hours of my time here
this semester and will continue through the end of the school year.

Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific).

Clnica Amistad is such an enjoyable organization to be a part of because of the networking with
other social justice oriented health care (and aspiring) professionals in my local community. I also
really believe in the work we do and the difference we are making in patients lives, who otherwise
would go without care and treatment for serious conditions like T2DM or cirrhosis. I also believe
it is important for me to utilize my Spanish skills for use in my future career.

Would you recommend this specific community/professional experience in the future; why
or why not? (Describe)
I am very passionate about community service and working in more humble, grass-roots kinds of
settings, so I love helping out at Clnica.
