What is Volkswagen?
-Volkswagen or VW is a German car manufacturer

-Based in Wolfsburg, Germany (DE)

-Volkswagen is part of a Group that is comprised of


twelve car, and car-related, companies

-Currently the world's largest automotive


manufacturer

The Spawn of VW

-Volkswagen was founded in Wolfsburg, Germany on May 28, 1937

-They were founded by the German Government, which at the time


was under Hitler's, and the Nazi Party's, control

-Following a series of long names, it was ultimately shortened to just


Volkswagen in 1946, The Peoples Car

VW Post WW2
-Following the end of the war VWs only production factory had been bombed
and left in ruins

-The company and factory had no true management following the war, seeing
as Hitler was dead and the Nazi Party and government were left in shambles

-In 1946 the Allied Military Government appointed a British Major, Ivan Hirst, to
run the factory

VW Post WW2
-In 1949 Heinz Nordhoff takes over the factory

-Volkswagen struggled to sell its cars overseas

-In 1949 Volkswagen debuted in the US and only


sold 2 cars the whole year

-Production and sales of cars helps in regeneration


of Germany

The Volkyland
The Rise of VW

-Beetle sales reach 1 million in 1955

-In 1964 Volkswagen buys its first car company,


Auto Union (producer of Audi)

-In 1975 VW Group is created as a holding


company, to buy other car companies

-The group acquires 10 car companies in a span


of 25 years

Logo and Slogan

-logo shows the V and W from Volkswagen

-The blue is to create a friendly global image

-The slogan is Das Auto, which translates to


The Car

-The companies intended meaning is that


they want it to be the car people strive for

-Created by Hitler and Ferdinand Porsche, referred to as Type 1

-First civilian model made in 1945

-The Beetle was largely produced from 1945-2003

-Just over 21 million Beetles have been sold

-The VW Bus or Type 2 is known as a Hippie Van for many Americans

-Designed by a Dutch businessman who saw a market for a bus like vehicle

-Known as a Hippie Van in America

Scandals (Porsche)
- In late 2016, Porsche SE was sued by investors claiming that the firm did not
disclose them of the financial risk resulting from the VW emission scandal, However
Porsche SE won the case.
- In Germany, most of the Porsche models are under investigation by the KBA
(German FBI) but have not been released publicly but in the U.S., they have
prohibited the sale of Porsche Cayenne.
- In February 2017, the FTC and VW settled on a $5.45 Billion settlement.
- $1.2 Billion for buyback, Criminal fine of $2.8 Billion, and $1.45 to settle external border claims

Scandals (Audi)
- In 1999, Audi engineers created a prototype
Defeat Device. Its use was proposed in
2007 by Rupert Stadler, effective 2008 in VW
models

- In 2016, The Audi headquarters were raided


and found self-incriminating that they had
installed the Defeat Device that included the
following models: A6, A8 and Q5 through
May 2016, 8 months after VW was busted.
The device affected 80,000+ cars in the U.S.

Scandals Effect on Company

- Stock market price for VW plummeted from $162.20 USD to $139.20 USD
- In its entirety, VW will pay about $25+ Billion in buybacks, criminal fees and
other claims.

Creation of The Punch Buggie Game

The game started as part of the Punch


Dub marketing campaign run by VW in
the 1960s. A man named Zachariah
Davis made it big by punching his
friends whenever a VW Buggy and only
when a VW Buggy drove by because
they were really rare then.

How to Play Punch Buggie (Official Rules)

1. You punch only for VW Beetles. Any other VW doesnt count


2. If you punch for a car that isnt a VW or punch for one that has already been
called, then you get punched twice.
3. Old Beetles are worth 2 Punches and New Beetles are worth 1.
4. You have within 5 seconds of calling Punch Buggy to punch someone.
5. Yes, No Punch Backs are a thing, until you get back in the car.
