direction.
2. APPLICATION
This Standard is applicable to the identification of all fluid lines (tubes and hoses)
of Embraer aircraft, considering the following restriction in relation to labels
(decals):
NOTES
This Standard shall not be used for marking P/N, cure dates and mountings of
tubes and hoses assemblies. In these cases, refer to NE 01-103 for tubes and to
NE 04-021 for hoses.
3. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS
Embraer Standards:
4. DEFINITIONS
4.1 LINES
Any tube or Hose used to conduct liquids or gases. Accessories, such as tube
covering, are considered as a component of the line.
It comprises all markings necessary and sufficient to identify a line. The group
comprises colors, words and symbols, indicating function, danger, pressure and
flow direction.
4.8 MAIN FUNCTION
It is defined by the system contained by the line (e.g.: hydraulic, pneumatic, etc).
It is the system activity (e.g.: landing gear retraction, fuel releasing, etc).
5. REQUIREMENTS
c) flow direction.
NOTE
WARNING
b) the application surface shall be completely cleaned (with no dust, grease, oil,
paint, etc), dry and temperature above 10o C;
c) labels shall be handled with clean hands, and the contact to the adhesive shall
be avoided;

a) they shall be placed in such a way their visibility is not affected by other
components in inspection/maintenance operations of the aircraft. Example: they
shall be visible and legible when observed throughout inspection windows of the
aircraft;
b) they shall be placed in straight sections of the line - they shall not be placed in
bending sections, welding sections, sections with tube diameter variations, etc;
c) as a general rule, decals of a same identification group (see Figure 11) shall be
placed in both endings of the line with extension equal to or greater than 600 mm,
and as close as possible to the endings. Take also into consideration:
- line with length greater than 600 mm shall have additional identification, with
a spacing that allows ease of displaying,
- line with length lower than 600 mm may be identified in a same compartment
with only one identification group,
5.1.1.3.2 After placed, the label shall not present rivels, air bubbles or other
defect which may result a defective adhesion.
5.1.1.4.3 The model 3D representation shall be as follows, see example Figure 12.
5.1.2 CLAMPS
a) stainless steel lines, with diameter equal to or greater than 100 mm;
WARNING
Clamps shall not be used in fuel immersed lines or in lines where these clamps
may be carried along to the engine.
5.1.2.3 The clamps shall be etched one side only. The geometric symbols do not
need to be etched. The clamps shall have their inscriptions stamped or electro-
etched in order to identify function (5.2.1 and 5.2.1.3) and, if applicable, pressure
(5.2.4), flow direction (5.2.3) and danger (5.2.2 "c"). They do not need to be
colorful (see Figure 13).
NOTES
2) Letters and numbers shall be legible, with size compatible to tag size.
c) lines in conditions not covered by items a) and b), and with diameter equal to or
greater than 100 mm; except for stainless steel lines or lines in an oily
environment;
a) a strip with the line function indicative color (see Tables 5 and 6). This strip
shall totally encircle the line, shall be at the left side of the others identification
group items (see Figure 14), and its width shall be according to the line diameter,
as Table 4;
NOTE
Lines with diameter lower than 100 mm do not need to have the function color
strip; they shall have only the others identification groups, as of item b) below.
c) letters and numerals shall have width compatible to the line diameter and shall
be perfectly legible;
d) arrows for flow direction indication shall have their dimensions compatibles to
the other inscriptions.
NOTES
2) The surface for paint marking application shall be completely clean (without
dust, grease, paint, etc), and dry.
3) The painted strips in fuel immersed lines shall be covered by sealant EC776R,
according to NE 01-040.
5.2.1 FUNCTION
a) main function: colors and symbols or colors, symbols and function designation;
NOTES
They shall be according to Tables 5 and 6, in accordance with the main function
of the line.
5.2.1.2 SYMBOLS
a) they shall be according to Table 7, in accordance with the main function of the
line, in black (17038 as per FED-STD-595);
TABLE 7 : SYMBOLS AND FUNCTIONS
( 1 ) According to MIL-STD-1247.
- at the right side of the label (see Figure 1) and shall be repeated along all label
extension for the silk-screen printed label,
- between the main and supplementary function designation (see Figure 6) and
shall be repeated along all decal extension for the thermal transfer printed
label,
NOTE
b) on the labels, the letters shall be black as specified in the Figures 1 and 6;
c) on the clamps, letters shall be black, on the top of the clamp, and shall have a
legible size. See Figure 13;
d) in paint markings, letters shall be black over a white background (see Figure
13). Letters shall have paper size, in order to be legible. See Figure 14.
5.2.2 DANGER
NOTES
1) Where the danger is a result only of the working pressure and the pressure is
already indicated, no additional information of danger is necessary. See
Figures 3 and 8.
2) Use the skull and crossed-bones symbol (see Figures 2b and 7b) in conditions
which require special safety cares in addition of the other demanded
indications. It shall be placed immediately after the identification group. See
Figure 11.
This symbol may be stamped on clamps, or painted in the paint marking.
The danger designation shall be as follows:
NOTE
OXIDIZING MATERIALS
OXIDIZING MAT
All materials that supply oxygen for combustion and
may react explosively, releasing heat, when in contact "MAT OXIDANTES"
with any other material.
PHYSICALLY DANGEROUS MATERIALS PHYSICALLY
DANGEROUS MAT
All materials not dangerous by itself, but asphyxiating
in closed areas, and are generally handled under "MAT FISICAMENTE
dangerous pressure or temperature. PERIGOSOS"
NOTE
5.2.3.1 On the labels, the flow direction indication shall be done with repetitive
pattern, according to Figures 4 and 9.
5.2.3.2 On the clamps, the arrow shall be stamped or electro printed, and shall
have its size compatible to the letters size. See Figure 13.
5.2.4 PRESSURE
5.2.4.1 The working pressure shall be identified by its value in Pascal (Pa).
5.2.4.2 On the clamps and paint marking, the working pressure value shall be
indicated right bellow the function (see Figures 13 and 14). The letters size shall
be the same of the one used for identification of the function.
6. SEVERAL LINES
Lines with external circumference equal or lower than 760 mm shall be identified
with decal, as showed in Figure 11. Lines with external circumference greater
than 760 mm shall be painted in the greatest area possible, not exceeding the
dimension (300 x 300) mm. The identification shall consist of the words "AIR
CONDITIONING", wrote in 2 lines with 38 mm height letters, black foreground,
white background.
All the vent, fueling or drain lines shall have, beside the function identification,
the words "VENT", "FUELING", "DRAINAGE", "FUELING AND/OR DRAINAGE", as
applicable. These identifications shall be done with black foreground and white or
silver background, and shall be painted in the line or etched on decal or tag. The
gas or liquid drainage pressure shall be indicated. The size of the letters and
numbers shall be consonant with the associated identification group.
The lines that conduct water for human consumption shall be identified with
decals, with the inscription "POTABLE WATER", black foreground, white
background.
7.1.2 The Quality Assurance shall monitor the process specified on this Standard
by an auditing process in order to ensure the fulfillment of the requirements
