Essential Question: How does exercise affect a person mentally and physically?

Working Thesis: Exercise has many positive effects on a persons mood, body, and overall life

expectancy.

Revised Thesis: Exercise is a vital factor in a persons life and can shape his or her mood, health,

and quality of life.

This article is a great starting point for my research. This discusses how more aerobic

activity can create a calmness or relaxed feeling in people of all ages. This also discusses the

differences in feelings after hard workouts and easy exercise routines. There are many different

changes a persons mood can experience after a workout, and this article helps explain this. I

believe this will help support my thesis because it shows that exercise can help people relax,

which is especially helpful to those with anxiety. I have chosen to use this article for my research

because it will help me explain the differences in changes based on types of exercise, and it gives

simple explanations which I can use.

Ferris Jabrs article discusses ways people can help lessen their depression, and

emphasizes the positive effects that exercise has on the issue. In a study where several adults

struggling with depression were all given exercise routines of different severity levels to

complete each week, there is a positive change in the amount of depression expressed from each

participant. The study also gives in depth detail about why exercise is a mood booster. Although

there is strong evidence that exercise helps treat depression, it is also prevalent that it is only a

treatment, not a complete cure. This article is very helpful because of the scientific information

and real examples. I have chosen to use this article for my research because it will add another

convincing argument that exercise is helpful to most people.

This article discusses exercise physiology, which is the study of the effects of activity on

different parts of the body. In doing so, it provides me with multiple examples of the body's

reactions to physical activity. Because it discusses multiple parts of the body, this article is able

to support both points of my thesis. It can provide evidence for the physical effects that can be

shown, such as weight loss and muscle gain. However it also discusses the scientific side of

exercise as well. With this I am able to provide information about what a persons body does

during physical activity, such as creating lactic acid and ATP. I have chosen to use this article to

for my research because it shows scientific evidence about my topic and can better educate and

prepare me to talk about my topic.

This article describes many positive and negative effects a person can experience after

exercise. It explains that exercise can positively change a persons mood and alertness, as well as

decreasing feelings of tiredness and depression. As well as addressing the positive influence

exercise creates for an individual, this article also conveys information about certain disorders

that can be formed due to over exercising. It will be helpful to me because I can use it to

demonstrate different ways a person can be affected. This article will be very beneficial in

making contrasting ideas for my thesis. I have chosen to use this article because of the

contrasting viewpoints it provides for my research.

This article discusses the benefits of exercise, especially for those who are later in life.

Putting an emphasis on the elderly, it teaches about new opportunities for exercise in those who

are in retirement homes. This article will be helpful because it gives examples of real people who

are continuing to work on their health even in their later stages of life. It also shows factual

evidence about the length of life and health issues of elderly people who exercise often versus

those who do not. I have chosen this article for my research because it supports my thesis that

exercise can help people have a better quality of life.

Overweight Participants in a Community Setting: A Preliminary Study."Ebscohost. N.p.,

This article, written in 2016, provides information on the effects of taking at least ten

thousand steps a day for people who are considered overweight. There are many positive effects

from this such as lower risks of multiple diseases that are practically untraceable, as well as

better self feelings of participants. This article describes an experiment that took place with thirty

five overweight adults and monitors their progress over time. The participating individuals are

then measured in many aspects such as: weight, body mass index (BMI), depression, stress,

fatigue, etc. and at the end of the experiment, each individual is measured in all of these areas

again. After the experiment, they examine a chart which shows the amount their measurements

have changed. I have chosen to use this article for my research because it has examples from an

experiment that took place which will greatly benefit my factual evidence.
