Sultan Ahmed Shah mosque in Ahmedabad is a religious place for


Muslims that is well known for its architectural designing. It was
constructed in the year 1414 A.D. by Sultan Ahmed Shah, the founder of
Ahmedabad city. Thus, the mosque has been named after its founder.
Lying on the left side of the famous Bhadra Fort, the mosque is very
appealing to look at. It is one of the oldest mosques of Ahmedabad. To

The prayer halls (Mehrabs) of the Ahmad Shah mosque have been
intricately designed using black and white marbles. There is a separate
chamber for women in the mosque. Towards the north east corner, lies
the prayer room for women, which is more popularly known as 'Zenana'.

Ahmedabad was founded in 1411 to serve as the capital of the
Sultanate of Gujara t, Sultan Ahmed Shah who also gave his name to the
city. Ahmed Shah's Mosque, Ahmedabad is one of the most famous holy
places in Ahmedabad. Ahmed Shah was a sultan of Gujarat's ruling
Muzaff arid dynasty. He ruled from 1411 until his death in 1442 and
founded the city of Ahmedabad and established it as his capital .
History:

Ahmed Shah's Mosque Ahmedabad In India was established almost


simultaneously with the city. The mosque was built in 1414, three years
after the establishment of the city. The mosque was built on the site of
a Hindu temple which was devastated and parts of which was
incorporated into the structure of the mosque itself.

The Ahmed Shah's Mosque is now one of the ma jor monuments in


Ahmedabad and well reve red among Muslim pilgrims. Demolition of
Hindu temples was a rage am ong the Afghan and Muslim rulers and
invaders during the Middle Ages. 10th century onwards, with the
invasion of Mahmud Ghazni, invasion by Afghan rulers became a
comm on a ff air. And the places that were worst hit by these invasions
were the northern and western states owing to their geographical
position.

Ahmed Shah's Mosque Ahmedabad is built in the conventional


a rchitectural style with a dome and minarets. In front of the mosque is
a well ma intained garden. The mosque is situated to the south-west of
the Bhadra Fort .
