IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance Inhalation Risk
BLACK POWDER OR SOLID IN VARIOUS FORMS. Evaporation at 20C is negligible; a nuisance-causing
concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached
Physical Dangers quickly.
Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed
with air. If dry, it can be charged electrostatically by swirling,
pneumatic transport, pouring, etc.
Chemical Dangers
The substance may spontaneously ignite on contact with air.
On combustion, forms toxic carbon monoxide if ventilation is
insufficient. The substance is a strong reducing agent and
reacts violently with oxidants such as bromates, chlorates and
nitrates.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Boiling point: 4000C Relative density (water = 1): 1.8-3.51
Melting point: 3500C Solubility in water: none
ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
NOTES
Health effects of exposure to the substance have been investigated, but none has been found. This card applies to pure carbon in
a non-fibrous form. Carbon fibres or carboncontaining polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons may pose different hazards. Also consult
