Language Arts:
Writing: We read the book Mr. Santizos Tasty Treats! by Alice Flanagan. We have
been reading a lot of nonfiction books and talking about fact writing. We came up
with some questions that we could ask someone we would like to interview. We got
to interview a friend in the class and we will begin to write about them next week.
Sight words: a, and, be, brown, black, blue, can, dad, green, he, her, his, I, if, in, is, it, love, like,
me, mom, my, no, not, orange, of, on, play, pink, purple, red, see, to, the, that, white, with, yellow,
and yes.
Math:
This past week we have focused on counting as a way of collecting data and showing through
representations. During our math workshops, we have counted students, noses, eyes, and chairs so far! We
also discussed the dime and its attributes compared to the penny and nickel. Ask us to show you our money
rap! Next week we will continue to work on counting as a way to collect data and then begin to analyze and
classify that data. We will also take a look at the quarter and its own attributes.
Science:
This week we planted some grass seeds and made some observations of the seeds. We predicted how long it
might take the seed to grow. Every morning it is our responsibility to water our own plant! We began our next
unit of recycling, reducing, and reusing. We talked about where garbage goes and what happens to it. This
led to many discussions about pollution and littering! Next week we will talk about each of the 3 Rs.
