Goal 1: Refine my skill and teaching ability of teaching 1 st grade math and

science.

InTASC Standard: 7B: I will be able to make each students achieve their

highest level, be able to choose proper teaching resources for differentiate

teaching for both individuals and group learners.

Current Skill Level: Applying.

Right now, I consult experts in the field when delivering instruction to diverse

learners.

Desired skill level: Integrating.

I hope I will be able to collaborate for the purpose of adapting lessons to

meet the distinctive needs of individual learners.

Supporting activities:

Year 1: Read O'Connell, S., & SanGiovanni, J. (2013). Putting the practices

into action: Implementing the common core standards for mathematical

practice, K-8. Portsmouth, NH: Heinemann.

Year 2: Meet with data team members every week to discuss teaching

concerns and share ideas for better teaching.

Year 3: Join more teaching support group to get extended support from both

school wide training and outside school training.

Criteria for Success: The score of Students s BOY (Beginning of the

School Year Assessment) and EOY (End of the school Assessment) will be

improved every year.

Goal 2: Improve my ability to give appropriate assessment as needed.

InTASC Standards: 6A: I will be able to use formative and summative

assessment as needed to record students learning and support teachers

teaching and students learning but try not to use too much assessment

because it will produce negative effect.

Current skill level: Applying.

Right now I use available assessment that I dont need to make any change

to check students understanding which help me understanding what needs

to be reteach and what students have mastered well.

Desired skill level: Integrating.

My dream is to make adjustment for my teaching according to the

assessment I give to students. Because I am still a new teacher I am hesitant

to change some things, because I do not always know which will work more

effectively. Hopefully this will support students learning needs.

Supporting activities:

Year 1: Participate as many training about giving assessment as I can

to get fresh ideas about what appropriate assessment will be like.

Year 2: Invite experts to give guide about assessment and work

together to design effective assessment.

Year 3: Independently design my own formative and summative

assessment and share with colleagues.

Criteria for assessing success

I will be able to see assessment reflect real performance of each student and

facilitate my further teaching.

Criteria for Success: Assessments I give will reflect their real level, for

example, those who score high master the content well and those who score

low reflect that I need give them individual support as needed.

Goal 3: Improve my ability to understand what I am teaching.

InTASC Standard: 4B: Engage students in all the learning activities by

using various ways so that they can understand the content better.

Current Skill Level: Applying.

Currently, I try my best to know students learning habit and check their

understanding by giving assessment and communicating with them. This is

sometimes easier to think than to do because things are not always as

planned. In the future when I have more confidence I think that I can

increase my skill.

Desired skill level: Integrating.

I wish I will be able to make students curious about what they will be learning

and have students discuss and share their ideas about what they are

learning.
Supporting activities:

Year 1: I will do more research about students learning habit and take

students difference into consideration when engage them in learning

activities.

Year 2: Keep working with other 1st grade teachers to seek for help and

share with each other about thoughts on teaching certain content area.

Year 3: Meet regularly with curriculum expert to discuss how to teach

certain area better.

I will feel more comfortable teaching independently without having to ask for

help from colleagues about content I am teaching and be more skilled at

engaging students in all kind of teaching activities.

Goal 4: Become more professional educator

InTASC Standard: 9A: Engage in all kinds of learning opportunities to

develop skill and strategies to have more to offer for students with rich

learning experience and at same time follow state standards.

Current Skill Level: Applying.

I am still on the level of applying newly acquired knowledge and skills. When

your career in teaching is new, you learn quickly about what you know and

do not know. For example, I know how to work mathematics, but I am an

adult with full education, and children in the first grade are in the beginning.

It is not enough skill and knowledge to know mathematics the teacher must

also find effective method to teach to the first grade student. I am still
exploring resources that assist in developing standards-based lessons that

meet the needs of individual learners.

Desired skill level: Integrating.

I will be able to ask for support from colleagues and experts from my school

and I will seek more training opportunities to improve my instruction skills.

Supporting activities:

Year 1: I will keep learning from my colleagues and try my best to apply what

I learned into practice.

Year 2: Take participate in as many teaching seminars as needed to get more

updated teaching methods to support my classroom teaching.

Year 3: By this year, I wish I dont need to rely on experienced teachers for

everything any longer and become a much more independent teacher.

Criteria for Success:

I will be more experienced in organizing all kind of math activities in a quiet

environment and everybody is engaged in their learning, which will create

the much high level of students engagement.

Goal 5: Build a steady and healthy relationship with students parents.

InTASC Standard: 3A: Collaborating with students, parents and my

colleagues to create a healthy and safe environment, which will facilitate

students learning experience.

Current Skill Level: Applying.

I encourage parents to get involvement in their students learning. For

example, I have volunteer parents coming to my classroom regularly to help

with students learning activities and help with field trip to enrich their

learning experience.

Desired skill level: Integrating.

I will be able to learn from my colleagues teaching and apply it into my own

classroom. I will be able to work better with parents to establish an open

discussion learning experience, so that parents will feel comfortable leaving

their children in my hands.

Supporting activities:

Year 1: Communicate with our school consultant to ask for help for tough

families to establish healthy relationship with them.

Year 2: Read the book Building Communities of Learners: A Collaboration

among Teachers, Students, Families, and Community By Sudia Paloma

McCaleb

Year 3: Build a healthy relationship from day one to make parents

comfortable about this relationship between teacher, parents and students.

Criteria for Success:

I will be able to handle some situation more confidently. For example, if a

parent is not happy with his childs performance in math test, I will not need

to ask support from the principal or my partner teacher frequently and be

more independently have a discussion with the parent.

Goal 5: Build a steady and healthy relationship with students parents.

Goal 6: Get more support from outside my school resources

InTASC Standard:10B. Each school has unique environment of teacher

and student. This means that there is different perspective of the needs and

goals of the teaching experience. Teachers from other parts of the

community and school can share knowledge and wisdom.

Current Skill Level: Applying.

This semester I engage with teachers of the similar grades. Also I have

worked with other Mandarin Immersion to have perspective of the students

skills and ability in the grade after first grade. Meeting with these teachers

gives me advice and confidence to make more efficient teaching for my

students.

Desired skill level: Integrating.

I would be very happy I can get support from other schools to understand

better about students learning needs, which will facilitate students learning.

Supporting activities:

Year 1. Seek opportunities to work with skilled teachers and mentors.

Year 2: Be more active with helping and seeking collaboration with new

teachers.

Year 3: Be confident and comfortable speaking and learning with teachers

from all other disciplines in the school.

Criteria for Success:

With more information I get from outside the school, I will feel more confident

to share idea and resources with my colleagues and become a giver, not just

a receiver. Learning something new from other school sometimes will bring
fresh resources to my classroom, which will enrich students learning

experience and students will be more excited about their new learning

adventure.
