Classroom Rules, Procedures, & Policies

Miss Edmonds
Expectations:
I expect you to come to class every day, with an open mind to learn and engage in class. I will hold
each student to the same high standards and expectations, and commit to helping you get there. I
expect the same hard work from you!

Classroom Rules:
All students are expected to treat themselves, classmates, and teachers with respect at all
times. THIS IS A NON-NEGOTIABLE RULE.

Together, as a class, we will design a set of class rules for YOU and ME to follow. These rules will
follow 6 guidelines:
Participate Be Polite
Produce Be Prompt
Be Prepared Positive Mental Attitude

Classroom Procedures:
General Routines
o Beginning of class:
Bring to class EVERY DAY: INB, agenda, pencil, and free reading book
Check sign outside of door for additional material needs
Come in quietly, check Grouping Board for seating arrangement
Sit in your seat, and record homework in agenda
Follow instructions provided on board

o Classroom Jobs: Each nine weeks, you may complete a job application for your
preferred job. If you are selected for the job, you will be expected to complete your job
quietly and efficiently. If you are unable to complete your job, you may be removed
from the position.
Attendance Administrators: After all students have entered room and are
completing tasks on board, quietly record attendance on Grouping Board.
Groundskeeper: Water plants, make sure desks are organized, and collect trash.
Situation Shifters: (2-3 students) In charge of moving desks to specific
organizations at the beginning or end of class.
Absence Actors: (2-3 students) Record work and extra copies of classroom and
homework daily for absent students at the Absentee Station.
Techies: (2-3 students) Take care of all used technology.

Movement in/out of the Classroom:
o Leaving the room: You are encouraged to use the bathroom/get water/ during class-
change times, so that you are prepared and engaged during the entire class period.
However, you may leave the room during specific class times, when direct instruction
or activities are not taking place.
Ask to leave the room at appropriate times.
If I agree, move your number magnet to your destination on the Grouping
Board.
When you return, move your magnet BACK to your original place.
**If at any time you feel you are experiencing an emergency, you will be
allowed to leave the room.**
o Moving in the room: You may move freely to get supplies, sharpen pencils, etc. in the
room. However, please do so without interrupting the class.
o Working in groups: We will review specific behaviors for working in groups, but your
general expectation are as follows:
Respect your group members.
Provide the same amount of hard work you expect them to provide.
If your group has a question, use Red Cross Emergency Cup to show you need
help.

Completing Assignments & Distributing Materials
o Completing Assignments: All assignments will be handed in in your assigned class
bin.
If you finish an assignment early, you may turn it in and complete assigned
side work.
o Materials: All materials will be stored in containers in the back of the room. You may
get needed materials when told to do so.

Getting assistance from me: I am here to help! You are welcome to come early, stay late,
or schedule a visit with me during lunch of homeroom. Make sure that you approve this
with parents and me before coming!

Classroom Policies: Good grades are not the goal in this classroom, LEARNING IS THE GOAL.
Grading Scale: We will follow the countywide grading scale.
A: 100-94
B: 93-86
C: 85-78
D: 77-70
E: Below 70
Evaluation:
o Academic Factors:
Graded Tests/Performance Assessments: 30%
Formal Writing Assignments: 30%
Classwork/INB/Graded homework: 25%
o Nonacademic Factors:
Participation & Preparation: 15%

Participation: Participation is a nonacademic grade. Because of this, most of my emphasis
is on grading your KNOWLEDGE instead of your work ethic & responsibility.
o I expect you to come to class daily, prepared with all needed materials, and to
interact with the content and others in the classroom.
In order to be prepared & participate you must:
Have all materials
Have completed non-graded outside assignments
Have paid attention in class
o I will keep a daily spreadsheet of participation.

Homework:
o Homework will come in two forms: graded, and non-graded.
Graded homework will be checked for accuracy. It will only be given 2-3
times a unit, and will focus on material we have previously learned.
Non-graded homework will be checked for completion/attempt, and will
be a part of your participation grade. It will be given 1-2 times a week.

Absences: YOU are responsible for getting your make-up work. Complete the following
steps:
1. Turn-in work you were assigned before your absence.
2. Check Absentee Station binder and calendar for assignments/handouts
missed
3. Fill-out and turn-in an Absentee Excuse form to your periods basket
4. Check with home groups for notes, and with Miss Edmonds for any
additional info only after you have completed the above steps.
5. Turn-in completed make-up work.

Late Work: You are encouraged to turn-in every assignment on time. This helps me to
make sure you understand the material, and helps you to practice what you have learned.
If you do not turn in a participation or try it assignment on time (at the end
of class), it will be counted as missing and impact your participation grade.
If you do not turn in a graded assignment on time, you must complete the
assignment and turn it in late. Penalties will apply, beginning with 5% off,
discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Be aware that missing/late work may result in a call home or conference.
**For each missing assignment, you must complete an Assignment
Excuse form.**

Extra Credit: I do not offer extra credit. HOWEVER, I will allow for test and quiz retakes,
and writing assignment re-dos. I do this because the purpose of grades is to assess
learning. Completing extra credit does not show me what you learned, but redoing an
assignment or retaking an assessment shows me how you grew.

Following these rules, procedures, and policies will help you to succeed in 7th Grade English. It
will allow us more time for what truly matterslearning. We will go over these guidelines in
class, and you can always ask me questions! I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you!
