HIST-1500
Signature Assignment
This early world history course contributes greatly to my general education for a couple
of reasons, one being that a general education should consist of many fields and the other being
that we must learn history and take from it for a more successful future. For a person to receive a
general education should mean that they have a general knowledge in many different fields of
study. This means that they should have basic knowledge of the vast amount sciences, various
time periods throughout history, and different literature and how to write within them etc. This
class contributes to my overall general education in the sense that it provides me with knowledge
of early civilizations and the ways in which they functioned and lived. Even if one does not plan
to pursue the field of history, this class being included in general education is beneficial because
one can learn from historic events. Learning about what has been done wrong and what has been
done correctly throughout history gives vital info to people of the future. If history were not part
of a general education then we could hypothetically have scientists trying to build blimps out of
hydrogen much like the Hindenburg, who are unaware of the outcome of doing this. They
wouldnt know that hydrogen would be so easy ignited and combusted if it hadnt been for
learning from past events in history. Although this is unlikely, it is just an example of why it is
important to study history and learn from what has already been done so that we can progress as
1500s. There were also many changes that took place beyond this point but everything prior to
the 1500s is what is considered early world history. Some of the largest changes seen by human
kind took place in the early history of the earth. Humans changed their lifestyle from being
hunter gatherers in the early AD and moved toward an agrarian lifestyle. This change happened
because there was human evolvement and discovery taking place that allowed people to begin
cultivating crops and livestock allowing them to stay in one place a begin early settlements and
civilizations. This lead to more and more complex societies that continued to evolve and grow
based on the civilizations prior to their own. There were constant advancements in agriculture,
farming, infrastructure, politics, war etc. These advancements made by the people living before
the 1500s played a major role in developing the modern societies that humans inhabit today.
This is because without this constant progression, and idea built upon idea throughout history,
many things that we take for granted today wouldnt have had the time they needed to develop
