I. SCHOOLS VISION and MISSION

We envision the School of Medicine as an excellent educational center for the development of future physicians, who are
equipped with sound medical knowledge and skills, dedicated to medical service in the Christian Spirit, globally competitive and
can assume any of the roles in the health care system: as health care provider, academician/teacher, researcher, administrator
and social mobilizer.

Christian Spirit
To provide an educational program in medicine, that is oriented to the philosophy of life-long learning, dedicated to
medical service in the Christian Spirit.
To promote moral and spiritual values and ethical behaviour essential to the practice of medicine, to include love of God
and country, social responsibility, caring, compassion, integrity and honesty.

Creativity
To conduct faculty and student researches on problems that are relevant in the Cordillera region.
To find creative ways and means on how to operate as a self-reliant unit and sustain long-term growth and development.

Competence
To provide comprehensive knowledge, skills and attitudes of future physicians who are oriented to the health and medical
needs of the Filipino people in general and of the Cordilleras in particular.
To prepare its students to pursue post-graduate study, specialty training and research in various fields of medicine.
To develop in its students critical thinking, problem solving skills, decision making and leadership abilities,
communication and pedagogical skills and the desire and capability for self-learning.

Social Involvement
Foster awareness of contemporary social issues, especially those relevant to the medical profession.
To contribute to national development through involvement in various programs of the countrys health system.

6 Course Pharmacology involves the study of drugs. The basic aspect of the subject shall be handled based on
Description the two major divisions. In pharmacokinetics will be discussed the four major processes involved in
the bodys handling of drugs which will include absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion.
Basic principles associated with each will be covered. Pharmacodynamics will include the mechanism
of action of drugs, their pharmacologic effects and both adverse drug reactions and toxicities. The
clinical application of drugs shall also be discussed which will include important aspects of rational
prescribing and significant drug-drug as well as food drug interactions commonly encountered in
actual practice.

7 Course At the end of the course, the future physicians are expected to:

1. Formulate an appropriate management plan based on an established clinical diagnosis identifying
the drug/s of choice applicable based on the patients history and health status including alternative
drugs to use on the basis of contraindications and precautions to consider

Skills
1. Communicate effectively with facilitators and classmates (in a small and large group discussion)
and target audience (selected high school class and barangay) regarding rational use and abuse of
drugs including herbal medicines and dietary supplements using various forms i.e. Oral, written and
electronics

2. Apply concepts and principles of research and evidence-based medicine related to rational use of
drugs including practice of use of herbal drugs and dietary supplements through the generation of
new knowledge, efficient dissemination of research outputs and application of research findings into
future clinical practice

3. Utilize the components of the countrys health care delivery system with focus on rational
prescribing and use of drugs on the basis of the generics law in response to the social issue of health
inequalities

well as heads, members and other health professionals in a barangay) regarding rational use and
abuse of drugs including herbal drugs and dietary supplements effectively

drugs in the treatment of diseases and promotion of health
