ARTIFACT & REFLECTION: INTASC STANDARD 6 2

2. Following the story, teacher will hand out the My Plate worksheet which is a blank

worksheet of a plate that has each food group labeled in each corner of the plate.

3. Teacher will then present the food flashcards containing different types of foods and describe

which food group they go into.

4. The teacher will then explain the assignment to the students that they are going to create their

own plate with the foods that go in the correct categories and show the example of the food plate

already completed. They can either choose foods from different magazines and cut and paste to

the worksheet.

5. Before students glue the pictures to the worksheet have them lay the foods on top of the area

that they are going to be glued on and teacher will walk around to ensure that they are in correct

categories.

Performance Assessment:

1. To be able to assess the students during the activity, the teacher will be walking around the

room and before the students are able to glue the foods onto the plate they will need to get a red

check mark on the worksheet, this is to ensure that they are in the right category before they glue

it and if something needs to be changed the teacher will instruct them to think about the food

group again and what characteristics it should have to be labeled under that food group.

2. In order to assess the students capability and understanding of the different food groups we

will have a test following the activity that will have different foods and they will need to match

the food to the correct corner of the plate. The students who miss more than three will get a

need to try it again and those that do not miss more than three will get a pass. The students

who receive a need to try it again will be taught the food groups again and explain
