Individual Teacher Professional Development Plan

Cedar Falls Community Schools

Teacher Name Building Date

Marisa Bauer Hansen 26 April 2017

*Goal Statement:
I will implement the teaching of writing through Lucy Calkins' Kindergarten Writer's Workshop. *This
will also be through the AEA course 'Literacy Workshop Class for Model Classroom Teachers'.

*Rationale for the plan:

What student learning concerns will this plan address and what data is used for analyzing the goals and progress?
Through this goal, students will become profecient writers. The data to support this goal will be student
writing samples that will be collected throughout the year. I will also be meeting with my AEA coach for
weekly instructional observations, coaching, and planning. *Student writing samples will be looked at in
comparion to student writing samples from 'In Common: Effective Writing for All Students, Collection
of All Student Work Samples K-12.

Connection to District/Building Goals:

How does this plan relate to building and/or district student achievement goals?
The Kindergarten writing standards align with the Common Core ELA standards.

*Indicators of Success:
What indicators that will be used to document goal progress?
I will be collecting student work samples to ensure that the goal has been met. I will provide
baseline on-demand writing samples in all modes of writing (opinion, informative, narrative),
middle of the year samples, and end of the year samples. The writing samples provided will be
used in comparion with Lucy Calkins' samples, rubrics, and assessments.

Check the Iowa Teaching Standards that are addressed in this plan:
1. Enhance Student Achievement 5. Monitoring Student Learning
2. Content Knowledge 6. Classroom Management
3. Planning and Preparation 7. Professional Growth
4. Instructional Strategies 8. Professional Responsibilities

*Strategies/Actions to be Implemented to Address the Goal:

I will teach mini-lessons to address multiple writing strategies in the form of workshop model.
Mini-lessons will be explicit teacher direction, along with modeling, and guided practice that will
last between 10-12 minutes. Students will then write during writer's workshop, implementing the
new strategy learned (pictures, detailed coloring, labeling, finger spaces, conventions, adding
more, etc.) during independent write time. I will hold writing conferences/small group work with
students at least 2 times a week to discuss their progress. I will be working with students to build
our writing workshop stamina to 45 minutes by the end of the year.
Resources Desired to Implement the Plan:
Lucy Calkins 'Kindergarten Writer's Workshop' materials
