Reflections on my practicum for standards

1.2 While at each school I read Teach Like a Champion written by Doug Lemov and
implemented some of the Modelling and Cold Call strategies. On future practicums I
intend to further my research into how students learn based on intellectual, social and
physical needs found at Mount Austin High that visuals and cognitivist theories worked
best.

into how students learn.

1.6 On both of my practicums I discussed the learning behaviours and needs of the
students within the class I was to be taking over. Although none of the students I had
were on an individual learning plan to my knowledge, I did make differentiated learning
activities for some students with in my Food Technology and Textiles class. Part of this
is always done by seeking if certain students have any learning requirements. At
Bulahdelah Central I had a boy in year 8 would had visual problems and require d any
handouts to be printed on light blue paper. At Mount Austin a girl with poor eye sight
was sat at the front of the room, any printouts were ordered in A2 for her and I used the
interactive board to enlarge any written text or images.

teaching practices.

3.6 and 5.4 Having not yet had the opportunity to assess students formally I have not
been exposed to student data that requires evaluating and modifying my teaching
practices. However adjustments have been made to lessons depending on the overall
ability of some students. This became apparent in textiles were some students had
sewn before and other had not. In future practicums I intend to set more formative
assessments, such as using Kahoot to gather data on students understanding of the
content. And hopefully one formative assessment to have this experience.
5.5 Demonstrates a grange of
strategies for reporting and record
keeping.

5.5 In demonstrating an understanding of summative and formative assessment I

have undertaken two activities with students to gage their understanding and to assess
their progress. The year 10 sample was to demonstrate the students understanding of
the rubric they will be assessed with when undertaking the in-class assignment. Below
is a sample that will be kept. For year 7 Technology mandatory I used a template that
recorded who worked in each of the kitchen bays and marked them off in different areas
based on their achievement. The end scores will be used as part of their reporting grade
at the end of the semester.
