Welcome to the American Concrete Institute

Welcome to ACIone of the worlds leading authorities on concrete

technology.
As a member of ACI, you will receive benefits designed to keep you
on the leading edge of concrete technology. These benefits are dis
cussed in detail later in this booklet.
The strength of the Institute is its membership. During more than
100years of operation, ACI, through its members, has contributed
to the progress of construction technology. For a history of ACI, visit
www.concrete.org, click on About ACI, then Introduction to ACI.
Asamember of ACI, we encourage you to share your expertise by
participating in our technical committees (see page 12 for details).

Introduction to ACI
Our mission is
embodied in our
tagline:
Always Advancing.

Only by working together can we expand the database of concrete

knowledge. The membership of ACI includes anyone interested in
concrete from all segments of the industry involved with the design,
construction, and maintenance of concrete structures.
With members in over 120 countries, we are truly an international
society that provides you with information on engineering and
construction practices worldwide. ACI, in cooperation with concrete-
related associations around the world, has formalized a number of
International Partnership Agreements in the interest of facilitating the
formation of a unified concrete knowledge community made up of equal
partners. Through these agreements, you can access information from
ourPartnersinformation not normally available in any one country.

1
ACI technical committees offer a forum for representatives from the
concrete industry, engineers, researchers, contractors, students, and
other interested individuals to discuss and publish information related to
concrete design, construction, education, and certification. Through a
broad consensus process, ACI codes, reports, guides, and specifications
are developed that reflect the best concrete knowledge in the fields of
concrete design, construction, inspection, materials, and repair.
ACI strives to provide you with the reference material to help you in your
day-to-day work. ACI has hundreds of documents dedicated to improving
the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of concrete and masonry
structures. As a member, you receive discounts of up to 40% on purchases
and may be eligible to charge purchases to your interest-free account.
Introduction to ACI

If you need CEUs to maintain your engineering license, up to 11 are

available free of charge (see page 5 for details).
As an ACI member, you receive Concrete International (CI), the Institutes
monthly magazine. CI presents articles on topics of major importance
tothose involved in the practice of concrete design and construction.
Durability, floors and foundations, proper mixing and curing, and formwork
are just a few of the content areas covered. You also may choose to
receive an electronic copy of both ACI journalsACI Materials Journal
and ACI Structural Journalor a copy of the Concrete Repair Bulletin
(CRB).The ACI Materials Journal andthe ACI Structural Journal are the
peer-reviewed venues for papers summarizing the current research in
areas such as structural analysis, materials properties, design theory, and
testing. For practical information on repair and rehabilitation, you may
choose the CRB.
For a complete listing of ACI publications, events, and activities, or to
update your membership records 24 hours a day, please visit our website
at www.concrete.org.
ACI is dedicated to providing the tools and resources you need to excel
in the concrete industry. The information in this booklet is arranged to
