Dear Professor Matsumura in Hiroshima, Japan

Introduce me, my name is Fathan Edi Purwanto, origin

student of Agricultural Engineering Department, Faculty of
Agriculture Technology, University of Jember, East Java,
Indonesia.
At my university, I get guidance by Dr. Soni Sisbudi
Harsono, M.Eng, M.Phil. and given advice to contact the
professor. I am currently in the 6th semester, and select
interests laboratory of tools and farm machinery. This current will
carry out research on the characteristics of bioethanol made from
seaweed. I am interested in doing research on bioethanol from
seaweed because Indonesia has various types and species of
seaweed, which is still widely used as a food, not a renewable
energy source.
In addition, the length of coastline in Indonesia, which
reached 81,000 kilometers also has an excellent potential for the
cultivation of seaweeds marine, which can then be used as a
renewable energy source of this type of ethanol. Due to the
limitations of tools and technology research on seaweed in
Indonesia, so that the potential of seaweed difficult to develop in
Indonesia.
Therefore, I wanted to get guidance from the professor
that I want to take this research can run smoothly and have good
results, and be able to applicate well to be a source of renewable
fuel energy, if there is an opportunity as an exchange student or
training or research together, I could apply to the professor.
Thank you professor, with all my respect, I am waiting your reply
about this regard.
Best regards,

Fathan Edi Purwanto

Agriculture and marine sectors become one of the most

important sectors to increase the economic growth in Indonesia,
this is caused by the majority of the Indonesian population
livelihood as fishermen and farmers, thus greatly affecting the
per capita income of the country.
As the development of the times, the results of farmer
and marine production in Indonesia can be utilized as various
types of products. Diversification of agricultural and marine
products which are produced are sectors of the food industry,
beverages, oil, etc.
One result of agricultural and marine in Indonesia is
seaweed. Seaweed cultivated by farmers in coastal areas
throughout most of Indonesia. Indonesia as an archipelago with
17,504 islands and a number of long reach 81,000 Kilometer
coastline has huge potential for the development of seaweed
commodity, where development activities have been carried out
in the waters of Indonesia began, of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam
to Papua.
Seaweeds are used as jelly, carrageenan powder, and the
raw materials for cosmetics. However, There are still few
industries which produce seaweed as a source of renewable
energy.
One of the great potential of bioethanol produced
seaweed is seaweed that can be a substitute for fossil fuels in
the future. The total area of cultivated land indicative Indonesian
grass is 769.452 ha, with the potential for Indonesia to increase
production capacity of bioethanol, then it is not impossible
bioethanol seaweed will be a source of renewable energy that
could improve Indonesia's economy significantly. Solid waste
generated from seaweed fermentation residue can be used as an
organic fertilizer that can be used for fertilizing farmland.
