Begin of the lesson:
Number Word Rap song by Harry Kindergarten
Relevance:
That was a cool song. Did you know that number tells you how much? In the video I noticed that
every number had a different amount of black dots. What do you think those dots mean? You
are correct. That dots showed how many.
Background Knowledge:
You are going to work with a partner to show how many using your fingers. Good job. Now switch.
Let you partner have a turn at showing the number and now your show how many with your
fingers. These number cards will have the correct amount on the back of the numeral card.
Now its time to go back to your spot on the carpet.
Now we are going to use the Smart Board to try matching the amount to the numeral using dots
like in the video. I will call on a few students to press the number generator and the whole class
will work together to add the correct amount of dots to the ten-frame. To provide immediate
feedback, will represent the amount using a dry erase board to make the corresponding marks on
the board for the students to use for reinforcement and support.
Small group instruction:
Small groups will take place over the next three days and will include the use of abcya computer
application. This computer application provides immediate feedback using sounds for correct
answers and the cards are removed from the memory board. For incorrect matches, the
application will turn the cards back over. Each group will play two rounds of the number memory
game.
Assessment:
Assessments will include numeral card match and will include numerals from 1-10. The
assessments will take place after I have met with each student during small group.
Evaluate & Revise
Evaluation methods for each of the following are included:
1. Student Performance will be based on Teaching Strategies Gold Color Band Learning
Continuum. It is recommended that student in Pre-K (4-5 years) score within the blue band
higher, from 4-6
2. Media Performance
I will assess students engagement during the time of the Smart Board activity and computer
application. If students are not engaged, I will have to find a replacement app or use app
with smaller groups, 2-3 students per groups. Also, I will have individual conversation with
the students regarding their feeling towards using the Smart Board activity and abcya
computer application.
3. Instructor Performance
I will video tape the lesson and review it with my co-worker for feedback. In addition to a
video, my district currently performs classroom observations and provide feedback based
one a set of criteria.
