Instructional Procedures:

Day 1: 10 MINUTES - INTRODUCTION/GATHERING ACTIVITY will begin with use of ipad


technology and Bluetooth speaker playing the TMNT theme song as children gather in circle time.
They will sing and dance to the music interacting socially. I will have the children sit as I call
them by name saying Turtle _____ how are you? I see you in your shell please wont you sit right
there, continuing until each child has a seat. I will say to the students I have observed you know
a lot about the TMNT and in this lesson for the next two days we are going to learn about real
live turtles.
Quiet Activity 15 MINUTES: We will discuss that the TMNT are fictional characters NOT real
animals like real turtles and explain the concept of pretend (fictional/non-fictional). I will ask
opened ended questions about what fictional characters they have seen on television or
newspaper, etc.
Active Activity 15 Minutes: For this activity we will act like turtles by bending on our knees in
fetal position as if we are turtles in the shell and when I shout Turtles, Turtles, where are you,
they will jump out of their shells
Quiet Activity 15 Minutes: We will make turtle art using our hands to make turtles adding
googley eyes and using a sponge to make the shell. Or the children will be encouraged to create
their turtle their own way using their imagination.
Clean Up 5 MINUTES

Quiet Activity 15 MINUTES:
I will have the students look at the photos of the types of real turtles on the smart board. We will
discuss whether they are water or land turtles
Active Activity 15 MINUTES: We will play the Tortoise and the Hare racing game in teams. This is
similar to Red Light, Green Light
Quiet Activity 15 MINUTES: Using the iPads we will simulate the life cycle of a turtle then the
transformation into a TMNT
