ACCELERATION: the term acceleration applies to decreases as well as to increases in velocity.

As a matter of fact, every driver is expected to speed up when entering the freeway. The process of
speeding up will help drivers merge well on the freeway. Also when exiting the freeway, the
acceleration will dramatically decreases. Another example is that; when planes are taking off, the
planes are expected to go at greater speed on the runway so that they gain more power to lift the
planes into the sky.

SPEED: Galileo is credited with being the first to measure speed by considering the distance
covered and the time it takes. He defined speed as the distance covered per unit of time." According
to me, Galileo stated it exactly right. When I was in high school, I used to participate at track and field
especially 100 meters race 100x4 meters and 4x100 meters respectively. My time to cover the
distance of 100 meters was 10.80 seconds. So the coaches were able to find time, speed and
distance when i used to compete at those specific races.

Forces causes acceleration:

When a car stops on the road or highway, due to battery failure or gas finished in the tank. To push a
car to a safe place, you are required to put the car gear to a neutral position and push the car. The
car will definitely accelerate because you have applied the force. I did this several times when my car
stop for some reasons and it's always a good idea to push it to a place where it's safe, and not
causing traffic jump to other vehicles.

Potential Energy:
Potential energy is the energy that is stored and held in readiness. For example, long
distant/marathon runners mostly do adjust their speed before reaching the finish line. When almost
reaching the finish line, may be a distant of 400 meters; you see them increasing their speed. By the
time they reach the last 200 meters, their speed is fast and that means they have stored the energy
in order to win the race when approaching the finish line.

HOOKE'S Law:

It states that; "the extension of the spring is directly proportional to the force applied, provided that
the extension limit is not exceeded.

In other words; if a spring is pull, it will always go back to its original shape. But when you pull it more
than extension limit, it will either broke or will not go back to its original shape. So it important to feel
something when it reaches its extension limit so avoid it from breaking.

HEAT: Is the energy transferred from one object to another because of temperature difference
between them.

As I was cooking last time, the oil from a frying pan jump on to my hand and burn me. In other
words, the idea of heat transfer has taken action on my hand. But Im glad that the wound caused by
heat transfer by boiling oil had healed. I will be careful to avoid it from happening again.

EVAPORATION: Is the change of phase from liquid to gas that occurs at surface of liquid.

Almost every morning before coming to school, I boil water to make myself a cup of coffee or tea.
Sometimes, I do forget it boiling until the boiling water almost finished. In other words, evaporation
has taken place. The water has evaporate into vapors, which reduces the original amount of water
before heating and boiling takes place.

Solar Power:

Solar power is from the sun. Solar panels are used to trap solar energy from the sun, then that
energy is use domestically for various purposes. Solar power is mostly use in developing countries. It
cheap way of energy, compare to electric one which is more expensive.
Reflection of sound:

We call the reflection of sound an echo. The fraction of energy carried by the reflected sound wave
can be large if the surface is rigid and smooth, and small if the surface is soft and irregular.

When I use to live in Sudan in Africa, sometime you have to call people by mouth from a far distance.
If you call someone in a valley between two mountains, the sound will definitely echo back to you. In
other words, a reflection of sound has taken place.

Electrical forces:

Inside every piece of matter are atoms. And in every atom, we have positive and negative charges
held together by the enormous attraction of electrical force. In other words, like charges repel and
unlike charges attract (Negative and positive charges attract, positive and positive repel and negative
and negative repel.)

Transparent Materials:

They are materials that allow light to pass through. For example, most of our home/house or building
window glasses are transparent. It allow us to look outside with clear vision. Also car glasses are
also very transparent; to allow us to see the road and other cars in front, behind and sideways. In
other words, transparent windows in our cars are important for safety.

Opaque Materials:

Most things around us are opaque--- they absorb light without remitting it. Books, desk, chairs and
people are opaque. Vibrations given by light to their atoms and molecules are turned into random
kinetic energy-- into internal energy. These materials become slightly warmer.
First of all, as a reflection on applications as part of the assignment, the applications

assignments were all about application of physics ideas/concepts to our everyday life. It was

initiated by defining a particular term and how does it apply to our daily lives. The applications

encourages ways to understanding more about what is being taught in class by professor.

The assignment supported and expanded on what I have learned in this class in many ways:

For example, I was able to apply concepts learned in this class into different applications of my own

experiences. The approach was really a great way not only to learn material, but also to retain it as

additional knowledge acquired.

I personally learned a lot by doing the assignments and the information was valuable in that;

it has added more knowledge to what I already I know. It was indeed a great experience and looking

forward to continue study physics in my future endeavors.
