MY LEADERSHIP JOURNEY

From the beginning

Leadership Institute
FLITE
Self-Leadership (outcome
#15)
Discipline
Harmony
Responsibility
Analytical
Consistency
Leadership theories (outcome
#26)
Servant leadership: this style of leadership is focused on
serving the people and the community rather than purely
leading and telling the community what and how to do
something
Getting involved

NWCC
Teaching assistant
And then I went abroad..
Inclusive leadership (outcome
#84)
Model of intercultural sensitivity: it essentially explains how
people experience and engage in cultural differences based
on observations made in a variety of settings
Bringing it back
College of Pharmacy Peer Mentor
Interning at CVS

Working with people from many different backgrounds

Interpersonal and organizational leadership
Outcome 112: Knowledge of techniques for working with difficult
people
Remaining calm: do not feed into the customers frustration or
negativity
Be proactive: ask questions and gather information relevant to the
patient case so that you can work efficiently and proactively to resolve
the issue.
Offer other options and recommendations that may be more
realistic and convienent for the patients wants and needs, even
if the patient is requesting something else
Separating the person from the issue: do not taking things personally
when the customers lash out
Understand that patients are frustrated with the scenario and not
you specifically
Work to resolve the issue, which will in turn alleviate frustration
This outcome is one of the most important to me because it is
something I have always struggled with
Critical Thinking
Outcome 88: Show knowledge of critical thinking
Requires conceptualization and synthesis for information to
determine a practical response and action.
Must have a set of information and beliefs to be able to develop
and process skills to generate an action
Each person thinks differently and how they approach critical
thinking varies. But once they master their method for critical
thinking, it becomes and efficient and effective way to solve
problems and generate ideas.
Outcome 97: Demonstrate knowledge of leadership that is used in
crisis
Inspire a shared vision, keep the main goal in mind
Strive for simplicity, overcome obstacles of communication
Provide the customer with options and be proactive to ensure
they get the right information
Ex: issues with new RI law regarding opioid prescriptions
Final thoughts
I hope that, during my time
here, I was able to make an
impact and empower others
the way I was when I first
arrived at Institute and over
the four years I have spent at
URI thus far
I hope I left my legacy at the
places where I have worked
and played a role as a leader,
and that they are influenced
by this concept of
empowerment and hygge
