When observing Mr. Jamison, I observed that he has a few students in his classroom that

need accommodations and modifications. Sometimes when being in the classroom I notice that

its the same students that are struggling with learning the material. While being in his classroom,

Mr. Jamison let me walk around and help the student that I feel like need help. After helping

some of the students, I asked Mr. Jamison did any of his students need specific modifications or

accommodations to help them learn the material. He responds and said that he has one student

that need extra help. As far as diversity, when I first went to Mr. Jamisons class I only notice one

diversity in the class, and that was that he only had one Caucasian student in his class and the

rest were African Americans. Even though, he was the only student not of the African American

race, Mr. Jamison still treated his the same as all the other students.

He accommodates his students behavioral and physical differences by his seating

arrangement. He has his students sitting in groups of five with four different groups in front of

the smartboard. The classroom diversity was not diverse, other than the one Caucasian student.

This students cognitive skills are greater than the other students in the classroom. Mr. Jamison

has to have extra work ready for him, as well as more challenging work. I notice while being in

this class, this student gets bored very quickly if he finishes early and has nothing to do.

One of Mr. Jamisons students that need modification and accommodations is a student

that has been held back in the fourth grade. Being that I had observed Mr. Jamisons classroom
once before I notice that this student looked familiar. I asked Mr. Jamison about this student and

he told me that this student was held back. At Brookdale, there are only two fourth grade

teachers, Mr. Jamison being one teaching math and science and Mrs. Wright being the other

teaching ELA and social studies. Not only has this student been held back in the fourth grade but

this student also must retake the classes with the same teachers. Mr. Jamison said that the

modification that he must use for this student are not as bad as they were before. For this student,

he must make sure that this student in sitting in the front of the class. Mr. Jamison sometimes

must explain the questions being ask on assignment to this student.

I have also seen some modification used in Mr. Jamison class. One modification he uses

is that he gives his students second chances on test. Sometimes when he grades test and sees that

his students are not doing well, he will grade the test, and then give his students a second chance.

He would mark the questions that the students got incorrect then call the students up and tell

them to go back and redo all the questions that they got incorrect. This was the only modification

that I observed in her classroom.

One thing that I have really notice is that Mr. Jamison is really accommodating to

learning styles. He sure to many types of instruction in his class so that the information can get to

all students I feel that these accommodations really help the students. By incorporating different

ways of getting the information to the students is one important way to help the students. The

only accommodation that I do not agree with is keeping the student from related arts to give him

individual help. I feel that this could take his enjoyment away from school. Kids really enjoy

related arts and by keeping him out of related arts may not be the best decision. I think that he

probably would not be as focus, because he would want to go to related arts.
