6 Important Information for Release v01.01.00.15

6.1 PoE Power Management Implementation (Switch 2426-PWR
Plus Only)
The Baseline Switch 2426-PWR Plus has been designed so that all of about the 154W power budget
is available for devices connected to the switch. This does mean, however, that there is no reserve
power which is kept back in order to support connected devices that may need additional power for
example, a wireless access point starting to transmit at a higher power, or a telephone ringing. In
practice this may mean that low priority devices may be disconnected from PoE if the higher power
devices require more power than the switch can deliver. These may then be re-connected once power
once more becomes available. In these circumstances, it is recommended that the following actions
are followed:

z Always assign system critical PoE devices to high priority ports. By default the lowest number
ports have priority over higher numbered ones (i.e. port 1 has the highest priority, port 24 the
lowest)
z Set the guaranteed power to whatever is required for the connected devices
z Monitor the total system power during installation of new PoE devices, and if the total power
being drawn reaches or comes close to about the 154W limit consider installing additional PoE
capability
