Goal Setting

GOAL 1

To utilise more strategies to encourage participation and student engagement in class


discussions.

ACTION PLAN

1. Observe and take notes of the strategies that my mentor teacher and other classroom teacher use
to maintain and engage students attention and participation.

2. Reflect on these strategies and collaborate with other colleagues on professional experience to
recognise new strategies that are used within their classroom.

3. Try different strategies within first week of professional experience, in lesson reflect on the
strategies used and if they worked or not. Ask mentor teacher for specific feedback on this area.

GOAL 2

I will constantly promote positive behaviour rather than focus on negative behaviour within
the classroom.

ACTION PLAN

1. Focus on observing mentor teachers comments and acknowledges of positive behaviour in the
class.

2. When teaching a lesson in front of the class, be mindful of students behaviours, commenting on
students doing the right thing.

3. Reflect on comments made and students behaviour. Ask mentor teacher for specific feedback
about behaviour management and any suggestions for approaches to take and reflect

GOAL 3

I will provide clear explicit instructions to students about the content of the lesson that I am
teaching.

1. Ensure that my preparation for the lesson is organised and detailed in the description and what I
what learning is to be achieved.

2. When implementing lesson, use appropriate wording suited to year level and provide clear
instructions as to what they need to do.
3. Reflect on the students understanding of instructions to measure if my communication was
effective. Did I have to repeat over the steps many times? Was this reflected in the students work?

GOAL 4

To plan and prepare lessons with appropriate differentiation strategies to suit all students learning
needs.

ACTION PLAN

1. Discuss with mentor teacher about students learning need and what differentiation is already in
place and ongoing for these students.

2. Maintain differentiation strategies already in place while utilising my own approach to


differentiate for some students learning needs.

3. Discuss and reflect with mentor teacher about what was effective and what I need to continue to
develop.
