WARDEN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

As a fire warden you have the duty, on hearing the fire

alarm at any time,
To encourage staff, public and customers to leave
the building immediately
take appropriate and effective action if a fire
occurs
To check that your designated area is clear
Report to the Fire Assembly Point Coordinator at
the Assembly Point.
WHAT A FIRE WARDEN SHOULD DO :
Make sure youre familiar with all escape routes
and exits from your search area.
Encourage everyone to leave the building using all
the available routes and exits
Check all accessible rooms in your designated area
(including restrooms, toilets ) on your way to an
exit
Close doors behind you
Go to the Fire Assembly Point and report anyone
left in the building, to the Assembly Point
Coordinator

 WHAT A FIRE WARDEN SHOULD NOT DO :
Put yourself at risk, just quickly check your
designated area on your way out
Try to enter locked or obstructed areas report
them to the Fire Assembly Point Co-coordinator
Try to fight the fire, unless you are trained and it is
safe to do so
Fire Assembly Points
Fire Assembly Points for each building are shown on Fire
Action Notices. Make sure you know where your
Assembly Point is. Tell staff and students to go there
when they evacuate the building. If requested, assist
the Fire Assembly Point Coordinator for example by
giving information to colleagues.
People with disabilities
Fire Assembly Point Coordinators are identified by
high visibility armbands or jackets.
They receive reports from fire wardens and pass
these on to security and fire service officers
They give instructions to go back into the building
(when the fire officer confirms it is safe to do so)

 Everyone can help prevent fires starting and spreading
by following these rules:
Keep work and storage areas and equipment clean
and tidy.

Do not smoke in no smoking areas and dispose of

cigarettes safely.
Keep fire doors closed.
Keep fire exits clear at all times.
Report damage to fire safety equipment e.g.
extinguishers, alarms, fire doors to the Company
Management.
