To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Kristine Lancaster-Grant. I work at the Childrens Behavior Therapy Unit, CBTU. This
program is run by Valley Behavioral Health and the Salt Lake City School District (SLCSD) to provide
services for students with severe behavioral and emotional disabilities. I am a special education teacher
for the program, employed by Salt Lake City School District. I am writing this letter in behalf of Ian
Sawyer, who is my current student teacher; January 9, 2017 thru March 17, 2017.

During his student teaching, Ian has shown great growth as an educator; both in teaching the
curriculum and in classroom management. He has implemented best educational practices. He has
been required not only to teach the varying academic groups, but also manage extreme behaviors, and
track the behavior data as it occurs, while he teaches. Ian has become very adept in performing the
duties of his job. He has participated in our weekly CBTU team meeting and has often offered great
insight about varying students and their multifaceted disabilities. Ian has taken part in developing
behavior interventions for the students and individualizing them as needed for each student. He has a
great understanding about behaviors and is aware of looking for the antecedents and other possible
triggers for problem behaviors. He gave our team some great suggestions on how we could better our
practices to benefit the needs of our students. Ian is also adept at individualizing the academic needs of
his students. He has been able to appropriately scaffold his lessons to meet his students needs.

Ian has developed a great repoire with his students and also the adult team members we work with at
CBTU. The team members include: therapists, paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and other
special education teachers. He has always been on time and has had great attendance. Ian has been
willing to contribute to the classroom and program in any way that is needed. He will seek advice to
learn how to better perform his responsibilities and has always been responsive to feedback in a
professional manner.

Ian is a dedicated and dependable person. He is willing to go above and beyond his job requirements. I
would highly recommend Ian Sawyer as a teacher for any school team. Please feel free to contact me if
you have any questions at 801-481-4957.
