Learning 3.11 The student will


Objective tell time to the nearest minute, using analog and digital clocks
Activity In this activity the students will be creating a video about their daily schedule. The video
will include an analog clock indicating what time of day that each event/activity will be
taking place. During the video there should be captions on what is going on in the film
and phrases on time. The video can be either a video timeline about their entire day or
about their experience at school.

With this lesson, the teacher or teaching assistant will begin with showing the students
the basics of telling time to the nearest minute, and how to use analog and digital clocks.
1. The teacher will point out the clocks on display in the room and see if the
students can tell the difference between an analog and a digital clock.
2. The teacher will see if anyone is able to read the analog clock. If not it should be
expressed to the children.
3. The teacher will indicate the difference in the hour hand as well as the minute
hand.
4. The teacher will clarify the increments between the numbers and how the hand
indicated the minutes

Once the students have an understanding, as group work on some examples as a group as
well as individually.
1.) The teacher could draw a clock on the board and ask the students what time is
being represented.
2.) The teacher could write a time one the board and the students will have to draw
both an analog clock and digital clock to match
3.) The teacher could as the student what each number represents in minutes. (The
number 6 on the clock represents 30 minutes)
4.) The teacher could draw a clock and time on the board. Then ask if the time
matches the clocks
5.) The teacher could uses the SMART board activities so the kids be interactive
6.) The teacher could make the students indicate what time different activities are
during the school day. (What time is lunch, recess, math, and etc.)
7.) The students could interact with each other by drawing a clock and asking a
classmate what time it reads.

Once the students seem to have a grasp on the topic, the teacher(s) will explain to the
students that they will be creating a product that will express their daily activities using
time.
1.) The teacher will give a description of the activity
In this activity the students will be creating a video about their daily
schedule. The video will include an analog clock indicating what time of
day that each event/activity will be taking place. During the video there
should be captions on what is going on in the film and phrases on time.
The video can be either a video timeline about their entire day or about
their experience at school.
2.) The teacher will show the kids website they will be using for the assignment.
3.) The teacher will go through the steps that the students will be taking to create
their assignments
4.) The teacher will present the demonstration that was created for the students as
an example.
5.) The teacher will describe where the students will be able to find instructions as

well as the example while they are at home making their creations.

Directions for Step 1: On your desktop, open up the blue, yellow, red and green circle. This icon is called
Use Google Chrome. Once it is open. Go to https://www.powtoon.com
Step 2: In the top right corner of the screen is a button that says Log in. Click any login using
the username and password provided.

Step 3: Once you have logged in, near the top of the page click on the blue box that reads
Create a new project.
Step 4: Four options will appear on the screen, but for this activity you will need to select
the fourth square that is labeled cartoon.
Step 5: will appear on the screen number 1-4. For your video you must have a minimum of
8 slides. So you will need to add four more boxes by clicking on the plus sings on the screen.
Once you add your boxes click the blue continue button in the upper right corner.
Step 6: Once the page finishes loading, you should see a grey strip going down the far right
side of the page. If you click on any of the options on the board you will find backgrounds,
objects and other feathers that you can use in your video.
Step 7: The first Page of your video should consist of your Title and your name.
Step 8: Make sure that each of your following slides include an analog and at least two
sentences. The sentences should be an explanation on what is going on in the video and the
time of the event/action.
To create your clock: In the grey strip there is a box with the word objects underneath it.
When you click on this link different shapes and arrows that will come up. You will need to
use these objects to create your clock. You will also we using the icon that says Text Here
you can type in your numbers to put on the clock. Be sure to indicate the right time on the
clock.
