DISCUSSION

Before starting our levelling work, we conducted the two peg test to calculate the
collimation error. The collimation error that we obtained from the test is 0.000017m.
This shows that the Digital level is calibrated.
The benchmark (BM) is fixed at a reduced level (R.L.) of 40.000m. For each
changing point (CP), the reading of backsight (BS) and foresight (FS) must be taken.
Our proposed site consists of 11 changing points (CP) of different distances in one
loop. After shifting the 11 points, we got back to the initial point which is the
benchmark (BM). We measured the intersight reading of the beam by using the
inverted staff method and the value is 1.1457m.
We used the Rise and Fall method to calculate the final reduced level. Our survey
work is checked by using the following formula;
Backsight Foresight= Rise Fall=Final R . L . First R . L .

Once the survey work is completed, we computed the allowable error for this
levelling project by using the formula;
Allowable error =5 n

Where n is the number of CP.

Our error is -0.0137m which is within the range of the allowable error, -0.016m. Due
to the error, our final reduced level, 39.9863, is slightly less than the initial reduced
level. Therefore, we applied a correction of 0.001245m in our calculation in order to
obtain the initial reduced level. We divided the error by the total number of our
changing point, (Correction = Error/number of CP).
