The world is like ocean. It is full of dangers. The life of a man is like a ship sailing in
the ocean. Any time one can expect a storm, whirlwind or gale in the ocean. To protect the
ship from such dangers and provide direction to the ship À À is provided with every
ship. ³This hope we have as À À
both sure and steadfast, and which enters
the presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered even
´ (Heb. 6:19, 20).

An anchor is very essential to a ship during the voyage. If there is no anchor the ship
is bound to be destroyed in wild sea. Similarly a man without hope living in sin is like a ship
without an anchor; he has no safety or security; has no aim. But God in His immense love
promised an anchor for the soul to such person. Yes, He is our Lord Jesus Christ- the seed of
a woman (Gen. 3:15) - the seed of Abraham (Gen. 22:18, Gal. 3:16). He is the anchor for our
souls. ³For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world
through Him might be saved.´ (Jn. 3:17).

The anchor has to be in sea water for a long time. So it has to be made of a metal
which does not corrode and lose its strength. Similarly our Lord Jesus also was sanctified by
the Father and sent into this world (Jn. 10:36). Christ Jesus was holy even in his conception
(Mt. 1: 8, 20, Lk. 1:35). His entire life was without sin and in Him there was no sin. (1 Jn.
3: 5). ³Which of you convicts Me of sin?´ ± So saying Jesus challenged His enemies (Jn. 8:
46). Though the anchor is in saltwater it does not corrode. Similarly our Lord Jesus.
Though He was in the world, the world was not in Him. He was holy, harmless, undefiled,
separate from sinners and has become higher than the heavens (Heb. 7:26). This Jesus is the
anchor of our souls.

The chosen metal will be tried in a furnace before being melted and beaten to form.
See our Lord Jesus. He had to pass through the furnace of temptation. He was beaten; He
was bruised; He was broken (Ref is 53rd chapter). ³For it was fitting for Him, for whom are
all things and by Him are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the author of
their salvation perfect through
´ (Heb. 2:10) Jesus is the anchor of our souls.

No anchor-no journey. Unexpected dangers will be foreseen during the voyage. To
protect the ship from danger and destruction an anchor is very essential. Yes, Jesus is the
beginning and the end. He is the author and finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:1; Rev. 1:8). The
journey will not commence without Jesus. Without Jesus you cannot reach the destination.
c
During a gale and in turbulent waters the anchor protects the ship from wreckage. Te
captain may be an expert and the parts of the ship may be strong enough. These factors
cannot save the ship from danger. An anchor alone saves the ship. Christ Jesus is the only
savior. No salvation apart from Him (Acts 4:12).

c
The anchor alone keeps the ship stable even in the midst of a storm. In the same way,
Jesus alone gives rest and peace (Mt. 11:28; Jn. 14:27). Apostle Paul is an example for this.
He describes all his sufferings in 11 Cor. 11:23-31. In all his persecutions and perils he was
joyful and at peace. How? It was because of his master Jesus, the anchor of his soul. Since
many do not have this anchor their life is miserable in the midst of peril and persecution.

c

The anchor is hidden inside the water to provide safety and security to the ship.
Similarly our Lord Jesus ³entered the inner sanctuary behind the curtain´ (Heb. 6: 20) on our
behalf. So we have safety and security on our journey in this world.

Let us each one find Christ Jesus as the true anchor for our souls.
