WORK EXPERIENCE

A. Technical Consultant
Aspen Technology, Inc - Houston, TX - June 2012 to Present
Job Responsibilities and achievements
Provide technical consultancy to resolve process engineering queries for process engineers (Resolved over
650 queries in FY13 and additional 750 in FY14)
Review scope documents for clearly defining the project scope (Reviewed over 15 process scope document,
about 1-2 every month)
Demonstrate Aspen Engineering tools to process engineering management teams in NALA (Resulted in
achieving target revenue of $6M in FY'13 and $5M USD in FY14 for first 3 Q's).
Delivered advanced Aspen Engineering training worlwide. (AspenTech received $50K USD in revenue, few
courses taught in UK and South Korea).
Work closely with R&D to identify process engineering calculation related defects and then perform QE testing
to verify the problem is fixed (Logged over 60 defects in FY13 and 70 defects in FY14 and got over 30% fixed
within 2 months of reporting)

List of Projects Completed

A. Acid Gas Sweetening
Designed Acid Gas Sweetening unit in Aspen HYSYS where DEA is the absorbent. DEA at a concentration
of 28 wt% in water is used as absorbing medium.
Calculated Acid gas loading was less than maximum acid gas loading as recommended by D.B. Robinson
& Associate.
Taught cost estimators on conceptual and detailed estimation for the plant using Aspen Capital Cost Estimator
(Aspen Icarus).
A. Liquefied Natural Gas
Created LNG production model which include acid gas removal , dehydration , a propane refrigerant pre-
cooling train , a compression section and final LNG production train.
Adjusted mass flow rate of cool stream to reach the temperature of mixed refrigerant stream to -48.15 0C.
A. Synthesis Gas Production
Designed Synthesis Gas Production unit Facility to convert natural gas primarily methane, into hydrogen in
Aspen HYSYS. The synthesis gas product is further refined by removing carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide
through amine contact or Pressure swing adsorption.
The flow rate of steam to the Combustor Conversion reactor operation is manipulated To control the
temperature of the product stream leaving the combustion section.
A. Safety Analysis
The objective was to find a PSV that can handle the following scenarios: a blocked
Outlet control valve, a fire case, and a local power failure.

We have found that that the Blocked CV and Power Failure scenarios are driving the PSV orifice size
calculation.
A. Atmospheric crude columns and Vacuum towers
Constructed, ran, analyzed, and manipulated an atmospheric crude fractionation column in Aspen HYSYS.
kerosene, diesel and AGO are removed through Side Strippers which has helped control the quality of the
product
The vacuum tower is used to distil the atmospheric bottoms product under reduced pressure(Top stage
pressure: 1.6 psia).
A. FCC Optimization / optimal operating conditions for an atmospheric crude
Column.

The objective was to determine optimal operating conditions for an atmospheric crude
Column.

The Hyprotech SQP optimizer has been used to maximize the revenue (Naphtha Prod Flow*price+ Kerosene
Prod Flow*price +..) While satisfying constraints on these products.
FCC Optimization using Aspen PIMS has done to ease the workflow between process/plant
Engineers and refinery/plant planners and schedulers.

A. Dynamic simulation of Stream Boiler and batch reactor

Created a simple dynamic simulation of a steam boiler and batch reactor for the production of carbon
tetrachloride from tri-chloromethane using Aspen plus dynamic
Implemented control system and tune the controller in the stream boiler and verified the control system by
varying the set point of pressure controller and look at the fuel valve opening.
In batch reaction we have created several task such as ramping the flow rate of tri-chloromethane and chlorine
at different time.
A. Dynamic Compressor Modeling
Created a converged, steady-state compressor model in Aspen HYSYS and prepare and switch to Aspen
HYSYS Dynamic
The surge protection loop is included to ensure that a continuous flow of fluid is provided to the compressor,
We have observed on the compressor curves plot that the compressor experiences surge when the feed is
stopped, followed by the surge protection control loop recycling fluid, which leaves the compressor back to the
inlet in order to ensure continuous fluid flow through the unit

A. Cyclohexane Production
Designed cyclohexane production unit in AspenPlus using hydrogenation of benzene.

Application Software developer

Radfrac in Aspen Plus - Houston, TX - August 2009 to May 2012
A. Model Predictive Controller solution analysis tool
Developed model predictive controller (MPC) solution analysis tool and its user interface for
Optimapowerware Inc.
Provided solution for following Controller constraint limit related question
- If an active MV or CV constraint limit is changed, will the effect on MPC performance be significant or not?
- How much can a constraint limit be changed before the active constraints change?
-What is the next active constraint or what is the next inactive constraint?
- What is the sensitivity (close loop gain) of those constraints?
- Which constraints are critical for MPC performance?
-What is the effect of the constraints based on the magnitude of the possible effects, on the QP optimization
objective function?.

Provided tool to answer the following MPC related question.

- Why is a manipulated variable decreasing or increasing over time?
- Why is a controlled variable remaining above its maximum limit or below its minimum limit over time?
- Why is a manipulated variable moving much more than another manipulated variable?
- Which constraints are critical for MPC performance?

Newmont Mining Corporation has applied MPC tool to its Carlin Property in Nevada USA. Controller.
Controller log file has been taken as a Case Study.
The objective was to minimize the MVs movement while satisfy the constraint on MVs and CVs.
We have identified the constraint causing the feed of South unit to decrease while north unit has been closed.
With the help of several cases we have developed the MPC solution analysis tool.
