1. General Hints

Always use the connected hardware PCMCIA/HDLC Adapter, SNAT 621, and the
HDLC Communication Card, SNAT 622 Rev. C.
The CMT-Tool is not a plug&play-aware application . Plug and unplug this hardware
only when the laptop is switched off.
Restart windows if these cards are disconnected by mistake.
Make sure that the laptop is connected to an external power supply when using the
CMT-Tool.
If the computer includes a feature that switches the power of the PC off when the
computer is idle (power management), then set this feature to OFF. The option can
be found in the settings of Windows and for some laptops in the BIOS-setup.
Disable the screen saver.
Only one PCMCIA card should be run in the computer when using CMT-Tools for
better ensuring proper operation of PCMCIA card and interface
If the PCMCIA-Card is removed while the program is running or if the connection is
interrupted, it may be necessary to restart the CMT-Tool program after reconnecting
the PCMCIA-Card. If this attempt fails, WINDOWS has to be restarted.

Please note :
The directory of the CMT-Tool also contains the programs CHECK622 and TESTxxx.
These programs require the PCMCIA socket drivers for DOS which normally not in-
stalled with WIN95/98. These programs will not run under WIN95/98 and will not be
needed.
If you want create a shortcut for the CMT-Tool
The name of the program is :
for CMT-Tool : DDCTOOL.EXE
for CMT-Tool : CMTDCS50.EXE

Move with the mouse to a free area of the screen or in a opened folder and press the
right mouse button. Then select New and Shortcut

Write the directory and the name of the program or look for this program by using the

SDCS-CON-2 the hardware of the CMT-Tool is needed. The program
DOWNLOAD.EXE, which is a file of the firmware package, is a DOS-program which
is running also under Windows 95/98 if the interrupt and the base address is correctly
set for this program.
After the installation described in chapter 3 open the Device Manager menu of the
System Properties. The System Properties will be found with

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System

Mark the ''&7RRO61$73&FDUG and press 3URSHUWLHV

In the Resources menu you will find the interrupt and the I/O range (base address).

For the download program, the following I/O ranges and interrupts are possible.

I/O range Interrupt

---------------------- ----------------------
0210-0217 03
0280-0287 04
02F0-02F7 05
0320-0327 07
0390-0397
03E0-03E7

Disable Use automatic settings .

Select Change Settings ... and find the value which has no conflicts with other de-
vices.
Normally the interrupt 04 is selected for the COM1 and the interrupt 07 is selected for
LPT1. With some laptops it is necessary to disable other devices to get a free inter-
rupt (e.g. soundcard or infrared link).
Please write down the selected values for further setting.

After closing the menus the following window appears.

Confirm with Yes.

Restart with Yes .

The firmware downloading is started by using the batch file, e.g. DC21d230.BAT.
The file name will depend on the firmware version.

After editing this batch file, change the command with download ... as following

download /I<int_no> /B<base_addr> /C<cable_len> file

with <int_no> = adjusted interrupt value (noted value)
<base_addr> = adjusted base address (noted value)
<cable_len> = length of cable in meters, if 10m or more
file = e.g. DC21D230.ROM

Example with I/O range = 0320-0327, interrupt = 07 and firmware DC21x230

download /I7 /B0320 dc21d230.rom
The batch file for the download can be started via the explorer or via self-created
shortcut

Check the installation of the PC-card. The PC-card for the CMT-Tool should be found
under ABB_SNAT.

6. FAQ

The program starts with error message (mostly before uploading)

Check the PC-card installation described in chapter 4.
Check the date of the file DDCTOOLI.DLL 13.03.1997, which should be copied
from the disk "DDC Tool SNAT PC-card Installation Disk"
Check the optical link connection from the SNAT622 (HDLC adapter) to the con-
verter by using the board SDCS-COM-1 or SDCS-COM-5 (connectors V1 and
V2).
Check the electronic supply of the converter, look at the LED Display.
Error message while Uploading, like "PC Overload",
Disable the power management and the screen saver (see chapter 1).
For a test start the tool program with the option /m2, e.g. DDCTOOL.EXE /m2
If this upload proceeds without an error message, start this tool with this option,
otherwise start with the option /m3 or /m4.
After longer using the tool restart the laptop.
Program CHECK622 and TEST622 are not running
These programs are only DOS programs, and cannot run without the PCMCIA
socket drivers installed in DOS. These programs are not needed with Windows
95/98.
PC-card is not installed under ABB_SNAT (Device Manager of System Properties)
Check that the connected SNAT621+SNAT622 is correctly plugged into the
PCMCIA socket and start the laptop.
If the PC-card of the CMT-Tool is found under PCMCIA then either this card is in-
stalled with an older driver or this card is added with "Search for the best driver
for your device" and not with the drivers from the disk.

Before this PC-card can be added anew, all entries regarding this card have to
be deleted.
1. Look for the card "DDCTOOL ..." in the Device Manager of the System Prop-
erties e.g. under PCMCIA or under Other devices and delete this entry.
2. Start the Registry Editor with the Start button, then select Run and write
REGEDIT. Go to the first position, "My Computer", and search with Find for the
word Industry. Delete all entries which are regarding to the PC-card. Please be
careful if the ABB tool Drive Window is installed. Repeat the search by starting
from the first position with the words DDCT and SNAT.
3. Search with the explorer the files DDCT_PPC.INF and DWC_DDCC.VXD on
the hard disk and delete them. Take care that the explorer is set to list all files
with every extension.
With Windows 98 the INF-File will be found with "ABB_INDUSTRY..." in the sub-
directory INF/OTHER of the windows directory.
After deleting restart the laptop and "add the new hardware" described in chapter
3.
